I meant to post this a few weeks ago but simply forgot. I purchased and installed an aftermarket headunit to replace the Subaru OEM Headunit in Forester. I am by no means a tech head when it come to car audio visuals but I do know what I like in terms of functionality and convenience.

The OEM headunit that came with the XT Premium Forester includes GPS, Reversing Camera and Bluetooth features but not connectivity for Ipod or USB. I also found the quality of the sound very average despite the car having 7 speakers and a sub under the seat. In addition the GPS software was average and difficult to use with the touchscreen. I put up with shortcomings until a mate over east told me about these. I checked out their ebay web site and despite being somewhat dubious about the plug and play I purchased one.

I am very happy with the results and have found the new dig options headunit a heck of lot better that the stock unit in all facets of use and performance.

The GPS comes loaded with iGo8 software which in my mind is one of the best in the market. The sound reproduction is vastly superior and the touch screen features are miles ahead. The Price you ask....a whopping $540 delivered in one week from Melbourne.

Just a few questions if I can Dave,
Location of gps antenna?
Responsiveness or unit? (e.g. lag or long time periods between switching screens, etc)
Fits nicely? any gaps?

Might have to take a closer look the next time I'm in the area

P.S those Sirf modules are pretty damn impressive for lock on time!

the magnetic gps antenna sits under the dash behind the instrument cluster
responsiveness is much better than the oem unit for every function
fits perfectly into the dash and is easy to install using factory harnesses
retains steering wheel controls too

Does the forrester come with a microphone on the stock unit?
If so, does this unit integrate the existing microphone?

yes the stock microphone can be used and integrated with this unit
it also comes with a microphone as well incase your stocker did not have one

Also this unit comes with a JDM rear view camera with the unit. The TV function is a waste of time here in Perth unless have a big arse antenna.

The guys at digi options are also really helpful with technical questions too. I had to buy additional wiring harness and you will too if you have a premium satnav oem headunit already.
