Default CAMS change - Fire Extinguishers

CAMS - Confederation of Australian Motor Sport

Technical Bulletin
For 2012 there have been changes to Schedule H which pertain to Fire Extinguisher requirements.

It will no longer be a requirement that a fire extinguisher be carried in cars competeing at Race events.

For a full run down of the decision and further clarification of the changes please click here to view the Technical Bulletin.

Big change for people running in events under CAMS.

I will still have at least one in the car!

Crazy not to if you are running around in something that is NOT insured!

Rule of thumb.. if you've changed the fuel system in ANY way (could be as simple as mounting a bigger turbo closer to the fuel lines), carry a fire extinguisher!!!!

Yeah I think for ~50 bucks, running one at all times isnt a bad thing.

The bulletin says Fire Extinguishers are still required for speed events but not race events. So would a track day at Barbs for example be classed as a speed or race event? I thought it was speed, but could be wrong.

Good move imo. Will allow more people to get out and do 'testing' nights without the need for added expenses of fitting fire extinguishers.

Anyone who is half serious will end up fitting one or two or three...

and as you can attest Kato, an extinguisher will do sweet fuck all in the event of a fire anyway. A 1kg extinguisher will be spent in less than 20 seconds...
