Had my eyes on another Gen2 for $4k with similar mileage, but obviously more worth investing in a proper GT/B4 wagon.

A second thought while we're still here. Would it be worth buying it (the $4k gen2 outback with 300k on odo) then having the engine rebuilt or swapped to an NA EJ20? Would a H6 plug right in?
Though I might lose the performance from an EJ20T, I'd still love to have a mid sized Subaru wagon.
There aren't many outbacks of this age that are under 200km on the odo. I've heard of rebuilds going at around $1000. So might as well make it feel like brand new for that much than to spend $1000 more on 100k less on the odo.

The 2.5's go ok and Al at A&M Auto's in Queensland has dropped a H6 in one but again it's not a straightforward job.

I'd say at 300k the heads have been re done as they all go on the early 2.5's, might be best to ask on RSLibertyClub RSLC as plenty have been converted over east.

Outback would probably only weigh 70kg more than mine, and with just breathing mods it's pulled a 13.09 so the right EJ20T you will not lose performance, the Outback that Al built pulled around a 13.6 from memory but it's got computer etc.

These motors will easily see over 400,000 if looked after.

Sweet, nice cars, different and not too common, they have 5 X 114 wheel pattern so lateish STI wheels should fit.
