New Wheels

hi guys,

so excited that my cars now taking shape cosmeticly.

I couldnt contain myself any more so thought id post on here, I have today purchased some MY12 wrx rims for my 99MY, seen someone with some on a GC8 earlier this year and thought they looked boss......

Whilst I um and arrrrr about whether to powdercoat the wheels or paint the wheels gold or not I thought I would ask your opinions

I will upload a pic shortly so that you can see the rims up close to the car. I also now need to find some tyres to go on them..... the garage said I needed 215/45/17's but with a 50mm drop I am wondering if I should go for 215/40/17's?

Any thoughts

is this the one you saw?

norwest_rumbler 16-06-2012 07:27 PM

not a fan of gold wheels, but if thats what you want go for it

ratpack 16-06-2012 07:41 PM

215/40R17 is the correct size for the GC8. If it was 2001 (GD) onwards, it would need 215/45R17s. Just make sure the load rating is 87 or higher.

TheDoctor 16-06-2012 08:24 PM

They look good like that mate especially against the lighter blue. If it were me I'd leave them as they are but in the end it's your car and your decision. You might as well have a go at photoshopping them gold; if you think it'll help you make your decision.

Tiigga 16-06-2012 08:33 PM

My 2 cent's worth is leave as is ..
Look nice the way they are..

JDM_STYLE 16-06-2012 08:34 PM

I reckon the current colour suits it well and looks quite good, gold prob not so much.

Ask Jimmy S to do a Photoshop of the rims in gold on the car for you, that way you'll save cash when you realise its crap and need to repaint them again kekeke. ;)

Master D 16-06-2012 09:15 PM

Leave them. Gold on that design i dont know will suit the car.

mARC 16-06-2012 10:34 PM

Personally not a fan of the gold either.

Shoop it though wouldn't mind seeing how bad it looks :p

SyncSubaru 16-06-2012 10:37 PM

For me gold wheels on the blue GC8 should be the only option. But - These wheels would not look good in gold at all.

Sethi3 16-06-2012 10:54 PM

Don't go gold. These rims and the colour looks boss like you said

TheDoctor 16-06-2012 10:57 PM

I know that now, thanks mostly to the availability of cheap Rotas, white is considered 'overdone' but I much prefer blue on white than blue on gold.

I guess it depends on the look you're after. In my mind:

WR Blue on gold = Rally Spec
Blue on white = Track Spec

mossman 16-06-2012 10:59 PM

i recon leave them as is. looks mint :)

Blash 16-06-2012 11:15 PM

blimey for a forum of scooby lovers im shocked i thought youd all be like gold gold gold???

appreciate your input, i suppose it wont harm anyone me running them as is for the time being, if anyones good on photoshop, any chance of a mock up?

Me n technology im shite with computers to say the least. :)

mossman 16-06-2012 11:17 PM

i have gold oz on my gc, but wish i had the gun metal grey.

ImPreSiV 16-06-2012 11:32 PM

Blue with gold, done to death! Leave as is.

kid 16-06-2012 11:41 PM

As is.....when i saw "my12 rims" i thought yuk but they actually look really good on the GCs....

Which is good because they look shit on the MY12's.

TheDoctor 16-06-2012 11:44 PM

Here are a few examples of wheel colours on blue GCs to get you thinking:

Agree greatly. Blue on Black for track spec too.

Master D 17-06-2012 07:16 AM

Getting them re-powdercoated to silver would look good :-)

phoenix 17-06-2012 09:59 AM

Personally I have always liked the gold but I reckon they do look good as they are from the pics.

Leave them as is for now, you can always change them later if your still not happy.

kid 17-06-2012 10:37 AM

Those WRP10 gunmetal rims on the blue GC are a perfect match.

Blash 17-06-2012 10:55 AM

going to leave as is for a while, i really like both looks the rally look was initially what I was trying to achieve, the plans are to colour code the whole car, I have managed to source colour coded handles and mirrors since purchasing the car but not the side sils and spats.

Once colour coded I was thinking of a Carbon fibre P1 Splitter and foglamp covers colour coded, I am going to get my tints re done a little darker and possibly an STi rear Spoiler.

Once thios is done I will start on the engine with a few tasty mods.

Hey just on the off chance, what tyres would you recommend that are cheap say $125 -$140 a corner? cheaper if possible?

Blash 17-06-2012 10:56 AM

and where would you guys go?

kid 17-06-2012 11:02 AM

Wouldn't recommend cheap shit tyres at all....you drive a performance car, so get good tyres :)

But try tirerack or demontweeks which are overseas sellers....you will be able to get good tyres for a fraction of the price you pay locally.....that's what alot of people do.

Then just take them to your local Bob Jane for fitting and balancing (around $20 a corner)

Blash 17-06-2012 11:09 AM

demon Tweeks is the UK i think???

Its funny how we can get performance tyres cheaper in outside australia than it is to source locally......

I had a set of Toyo Proxes TR1 on my s2000 great in the dry but even better in the wet will look out for a set of those.

cheers again

kid 17-06-2012 11:22 AM

Yup Demon Tweeks is UK, Tirerack is USA...

Happy Shopping!

Yeah I love them but I think I remember reading on here somewhere that they don't clear a lot of the bigger bakes, Brembos and the like.

Blash 17-06-2012 10:03 PM

Found the wheels in gold anyone good at photo shop?

teejay 17-06-2012 10:19 PM

They look shit gold.

Blash 17-06-2012 10:47 PM

they look shit on the MY12 think i'll stick with the graphite

TROLLEY 17-06-2012 10:59 PM

Agree with teejay. If the spokes were evenly spaced, gold may be passable.

TheDoctor 18-06-2012 09:42 PM

Magic1s car. I don't know what the drop is but I know he has the same coil overs as I have in mine: HSD HRs.

Blash 18-06-2012 09:53 PM

Cheers guys I'll pm him, I have a 50mm drop so just wondering what tyre size I can get away with???
