The ultimate WRX to own/drive?

The only problem is it would be very tough to decide whether to keep it stock or modify it or keep it mint as a collectable/pimp around in it all the time/track it . . .

GTB Liberty 20-09-2012 02:29 PM

That's Rubberbudgie's 22B.

Kato 20-09-2012 02:30 PM

Ultimate?

In 1998, yes.

These days, not so.

There a few for sale at the moment. All are too much money for what it is.

Darren's one would be the best example around though. If the price was right, I'd still love to have one in the shed.

It's pristine that 22B.

I think he paid over $100k for it?

Yes and yes...and mileage is genuine too...

AJAYJAY 20-09-2012 02:41 PM

would you modify a 22b? thats like letting a lady get a boob reduction

DukeDrifter 20-09-2012 03:01 PM

:O if I only I had 85k that is amazing

I agree, '98 is along time ago.
Pretty sure a modern STI would be quicker.
Not as rare though

huggy_b 20-09-2012 03:37 PM

I dont reckon its quite the "collectable" many had hoped it would be. I dont think I could justify spending $85 on one personally, although they are a very nice machine.

DukeDrifter 20-09-2012 03:46 PM

Mmm any chance it'll make an appearance and the colin cruise ? Or another 22b

Saint_23 20-09-2012 03:48 PM

Doubt it.

Darren keeps it in a hermetically sealed garage.

DukeDrifter 20-09-2012 03:57 PM

:( what about out s204s the only 2 in oz aren't they ?

Saint_23 20-09-2012 04:08 PM

Explicit had the silver S204 which he sold last year from memory. It is still in perth somewhere.
JDM_Style has the blue S204. Havent seen it in a while, he might show up.

There is an S201 in Perth as well, but it wont show up.
There is also a B-reg S202, but it is only used for track work.

jEstEr? 21-09-2012 12:27 PM

There is a few more S201's, s204s etc that are floating about but the owners keep much to themselves. Graham's S202 is probably still immobile. 22B would be nice to own but its certainly no F40

mARC 21-09-2012 12:40 PM

22B IMO is still way to new to be a collectible.

Given it keeps its current condition, maybe in 20yrs you could see a return.

DukeDrifter 21-09-2012 12:51 PM

Yeah 85k for 1of400 bit steep, I thought 22bs wouldn't have had as many produced.

Is it similar cost wise to get your hands in s202,3,4 etc

no, certainly cheaper for s series bar the s201.

Fair enough, I find the s201 to be an abombanation personally, looks wise atleast

kid 21-09-2012 04:22 PM

Agreed. It truly is an abombanation.

misterward 21-09-2012 04:53 PM

I won't argue, but rare as hens teeth and speaking from experience, a very rapid car! Doesn't have the cult status of 22B's but.

DukeDrifter 21-09-2012 05:25 PM

its actually an sti production cause i dont understand how they can go from a 22b which is sexy to and s201 not so then back to very easy on the eyes s202, different head design chief maybe ?

DukeDrifter 21-09-2012 05:29 PM

anyway know why the betty was an r205 not an s series ?

ALLPAWS 21-09-2012 07:03 PM
would you modify a 22b? thats like letting a lady get a boob reduction
When I say modify I was thinking of things like exhaust, BOV etc, things that could be easily reversed, not resprays or gutting the interior.

ALLPAWS 21-09-2012 07:06 PM

I genuinely would prefer to own and drive a 22B to a F40 if it was one or the other and the money thing is not taken into consideration.

Anyways, hope it doesn't sell as hoping in about six months or so I'll be in a position to buy it. . .

kid 21-09-2012 07:54 PM

Ferrari F40? You would prefer a 22B?

LOL

Dead set, no bullshit. An F40 even tho is an awesome car has no air con, stereo or even power steering(I think). They are also are Italian so prone to breaking down alot and being a pain to own and maintain in general.

The 22B is rare, has pedigree and is a limited edition too - just as fun to throw around a racetrack and only enthusiasts will want to pull u up to oggle to car, not every bogan within viewing disance.

Get off the pipe!

MISSWRXYSTi 21-09-2012 08:27 PM

So in 6 months you will have $85k for a 14 year old car...one would be assuming that would be savings as a bank wouldn't loan that amount on that age car ?

I would be buying a house, or another house if you own one already ...

ALLPAWS 21-09-2012 08:34 PM

Well if u like Fezza's so much buy my wifes MR-S and put one of those try-hard bodykits on it . . .

Anyways, from my experiences with hi performance bikes, owning and riding Italian ones is very frustrating(and expensive but ignoring this) compared to their Japanese rivals.

I put over $60K into a few Mazda RX's over the years so not fussed about 85K for basically a new car.
I paid almost 75K for a Audi A4 8 years ago and that was a mistake as struggling to sell it for more than $12K.
We also lost $40K in 2 years on a SLK . . .should I go on???

I love my cars/bikes but have to be a bit more careful due to economic conditions in recent times.

DukeDrifter 21-09-2012 10:32 PM

Only buy it if you'll actually use it 85k is a lot for a garage ornament

This ^^^

It shits me every time a beautiful peice of automotive engineering is "moth-balled" and becomes just another dust collector.

Cars deserve to be driven and if its a proper balls-out performance car then they should be driven hard from time-to-time.

It is just something I could never do, if I have spent the money and worked the hours to buy a car (no matter what car) I am going to drive it.

muggz 21-09-2012 10:45 PM

LOL.

No seriously, buy 22b, gut it, cage, motec & skids!

JDM_STYLE 21-09-2012 11:13 PM
:( what about out s204s the only 2 in oz aren't they ?
There are a couple of B-regs, a conversion and when it comes to personally imported ones there's one on the mainland and one on Christmas island.

There's also now a S206 over east which was bought in via race rally rego and will be used as a track car.
Explicit had the silver S204 which he sold last year from memory. It is still in perth somewhere.

Will try turn up for the Langley Park meet weather pending but need to bail @ 10 and can't join the cruise part as I have other business to attend to.

Ramon works on Sundays so the 201 won't be coming.
