Re read what you wrote. It has alot of potential for mods. Not designed for it. Sorry.
There are a number of quotes flying around the net from Tada-San explaining the interest in designing the car with modifying in mind. A simple one being the rolled guards from factory, rear well spacing to accommodate upto 10" width rims (clearly not designed for a low HP car with a stock 53+ offset...) for track purposes.

I will have a look around to try to dig up the quotes and info and post them when I'm home.

Either way, I'm not sure how a car that has alot of potential for mods, is a car that wasn't designed for people to modify.....Quotes such as "being excited to see how people modify this car" from those who designed the 86, and offering the car to the top tuning houses in Japan would somewhat cement this??

**edit - If your meaning what a said about the FA20, then yes I probably worded that wrong. From the articles I have read on workshops that have stripped them down, they seem to beieve that they are fairly strong motors and can easily handle FI even with the hi comp**

In Japan they were selling a factory stripped out 86 version for customers ready for modifying, will try find the link/article and post it up later.......might even be in a thread around here somewhere iirc.

I think the main problem with modifying is the lack of space and complexity to add forced induction componants.
Also coming from a WRX background where we can pretty much pick up performance parts lying on the side of the road makes us a bit more sceptical.

Just some thoughts . . .

Would be keen for a factory stripped one..so long as they dropped the price to ~$25k.

Still looks too much like a hairdresser's car for my tastes though.

This is one of the things that has interested me the most about the 86/BRZ. It does seem as if the chassis is designed for a lot more. I do remember one early review saying that whilst the car could fit massive phat rear tyres, it was actually a performance downgrade, as most of the 'fun' is due to the factory skinny tyres.

I'm still of the belief that there is a factory turbo coming when they announce the engines for the next WRX/STI. As I am now an old man, I have a thing for factory performance over tuner performance. They have the styling, the chassis and just need the motor to make it truly great imo.
