Default Turbo Heat Bags

Hey All

Just wondering what thoughts people have or if your using a Turbo heat bag.

You see them in hot fours and stuff like that but are they any good. I here you have to take it off after a thrashing because its not good keeping the heat in the turbo once the car has been shut off...

any thoughts would be good..

I know other alternative are powder coating everything but this Thermal bag is like $200 bucks.....

Sounds good

Chris

Yes, turbo bags arent supposed to be kept on the turbo for prolonged periods....trapping heat inside a turbo is not good for it. Factory heat shields let the heat out after a while, whilst still keeping convection to a minimum to protect other underbonnet compomemts

SilentKilla: Have you even used a turbo bag before?

You can touch them even when the turbo is glowing red!! So, its not really an unreasonable ask..

yer they would use special insulation within there to keep the heat in and on the outside it will be atmospheric temp, just like a coffee flask thats what i woulda thort

I think watching some dumbass try and take a bag off a glowing hot turbo would be incredibly funny.

Im not calling him dumb, but just wondering how he could reasonably expect to be able to do that.. with the turbo's location and with the heat..
Forgive me for saying but if you read up on the bag, Balistic and Mr Psi is right..The bag is made out of some thermal products that allow you to take off the bag. the bag is only held togther by buttoms like adidas trakies...so taking it off will be easy....

on their site it also does mention about not leaving it on....

So basically the best way to reduce heat would be to ceramic coat housing and dump pimp and even maybe the heat sheild?

now them is some dollars wasted! but all woth the effort in keeping the under bonnet temp down

Thanks for your thoughts

Chris

Coffee flask works on vacuum....turbo heat bag is filled with heat proof material.

They do the same job in the end though....insulate

Feeling dumb ive deleted my posts..

I have dump/front pipe thermal wrap on my current car and i can say it has made a very big difference to the heat radiated.

The bag doesnt sound very practicle if the turbo is low mount tho? wouldnt it be hard to get at? (sti is still in the mail so cant see yet)

Nah not that hard to get at, I sometimes put a turbo bag on mine depending on what I'm doing with the car.

Mine is supposed to secure with wire, but its normally such a snug fit with everything else around the turbo holding it in place, that the wire isnt required!

One thing you cant do though, is fit the bag when the turbo is hot or you've just run the car....you'll burn the shit out of yourself tucking the edges of the bag around the under side of the turbo!!
