I honestly wish they didn't have a monopoly on certain race tyres, I know John is a nice guy but was not brain washed into thinking he is the only guy on the planet that can wheel align a car....

Sad news for him for sure though....

Don't think it's was so much about thinking he was the only person that could do an alignment but it was his ability to offer what tyre / rim / alignment combo would suit pretty much any model car without any fucking around. Walk in to his shop and there would be half a dozen different makes of race cars getting fitted up.
This took all the guess work out of it.

I don't disagree with you there Burke, but one of the reasons so many cars were there getting fitted up has to do with a monopoly on the most popular race tyres (you had no choice but to go there)

As i said, John is a nice guy, but i would like some competition so we are not paying 110% for the tyres as a result of the monopoly

I think Bob Murray will be turning in his grave.

At the end of the day I hope that sanity can prevail and that some further negotiations can occur...it will be a real shame if it doesn't.
I second that one Steve!

The monopoly is not set by the tyre shop - its the tyre manufacturer only allowing one distributor the deal of selling race tyres. Wheels World is Yokohama, Kostera's is Dunlop, Kerry Wade's old place in Bentley is Bridgestone, Racetune is Toyo etc etc. Passenger tyres etc is a different story; any man and his dog can get them!

WW have the monopoly on Yokohama race tyres since they were appointed as the single state distributor as is the case for most if not all other race tyres (eg Dunlop via Kostera's for years and Kerry Wade with Bridgestone...etc). WW had plenty of custom before A050's came along...most of us used to get our Dunlops or Bridgestones through WW.

But credit where credit's due.

John's experience with setting up WRX's comes from a long association with the brand...eg since 1994 when WW put the 1st set of 17" rims to go on a WRX in Aust together with Koni inserts with lowered springs onto my car. And he has years of experience with many Jap and Euro (including high end) brands. John also has related academic qualifications.

In the past, through John, WW (before Bob's passing) supported motorsport at the Club level...eg sponsorship of the EVO vs WRX series.

But WW certainly isn't the only place to have a good alignment done in Perth...eg Wilkos are excellent. So there always has been choice.

It's been a tough road for John since Bob's passing, so it's unfortunate that things have come to this after all the work he and Dean did to hold the business together in that limbo period. Let's hope that some sanity might prevail.

So who owns Wheels World? Obviously not John or Dean?
