Just buy an STI manifold if you want to delete them.. However you will need to fudge the ecu with a bit of trickey if you run a stock ecu.

If you have a standalone it should be easy enough to disable the missing tumblers.

BALISTC 28-06-2006 07:03 AM

I've had it done.

My TGVs are gutted, and the holes are welded up. They are also match ported.

Dont know if it made a difference, because I did heaps of other stuff at the same time.

As Pete said, you will need to fool the stock ECU if you remove the TGVs, but I have a Motec so no problems with ECU issues.

UNDRGND 28-06-2006 01:39 PM

Balistc - Who did it for you? Especially the Match ported

Cheers

The Shed did it for me, when they did a bunch of other work on the car.

WRP10 28-06-2006 06:29 PM

Sorry, i know this is a very dumb question is the shed exactly, where is it and who is it?

I believe its a workshop started by and for a few of the guys on here and is just in some random warehouse, but even if thats correct thats all i know

tuna 28-06-2006 07:06 PM

correct.

DAN682 28-06-2006 07:13 PM

What exactly does this mod do?

blackmy03 28-06-2006 07:20 PM

it allows better air flow inside the manifold i guess

tuna 28-06-2006 07:20 PM

siginicantly cleans up the airways in the manifold, you -will- acheive at least a 15hp improvement in peak performance.

the tumblers are basically a secondary throttle assembly hidden inside the manifold.

DAN682 28-06-2006 07:21 PM

Yeah right! Cool.

Well thanks for the info.

You learn something new everyday :p

i was just wondering what they are needed for? (as in, why are the cars built with these if they function better without them?)

thanks

they channel the air over the injector to better atomise the fuel.

and they do produce cars without them... ie the sti :)

mr_psi 28-06-2006 07:30 PM

thats what i was gonna say...

blackmy03 28-06-2006 07:31 PM

to make wrx goes slower :D

1C3 28-06-2006 07:33 PM
to make wrx goes slower :D
that's what it seems....

-Luke

mr_psi 28-06-2006 07:34 PM

what would a workshop charge to remove these?

any particular reason it differs between the rex and sti?

is it more expensive to build them without tumblers?

thanx

tuna 28-06-2006 07:51 PM

its a fuel effiecency thing.

1C3 28-06-2006 07:58 PM

understood. Thanks!

(no more silly questions from me)

EVL WRX 28-06-2006 10:24 PM

Stacey,

Is the Shed still active? Available to all Pdiddy members?

Cheers
