Default brake pads

im under the impresion that brake pad work just as good on its top part and on its mid-low part. but when the brake pad is geting to about 50-40% left in it, i allways have trouble to brake becasue i have to brake deeper for the pads to bite, hence sometime it causes the ABS to activate and soo on. as a result it lead me to change my brakepad even though there are still about 50 % left on my pad.

is that a way for resolving this? i was thingking (and this is just from the top of my head) maybe there is something that i can put between the back of the brake pad and the piston, so that i wouldnt have to brake as deep and the brake pad feal like a new brake pad.
