Default Collateral Damage - What have you broken?

So as we all know there are a few weak links with Subaru's, so as a bit of Friday fun, What have you broken on your car (or a car you've been in)?

I know there are going to be a lot of smashed 5 speeds but I'm sure there are a few more "how the f*ck" ones going around.

Ill start off with my power steering pump... it wanted to eat itself.. here was the end result. Should be a nice smooth face...

And Denvers 4th gear dog ring that went bang last night at rally sprint

A couple of the ones i've had.

This was a stock 3.54 R160 Diff this happened at around 500hp

This was the failure that made me learn to do things myself.

I spent roughly $16000 for a motosport company in the UK (TSL) to do a build for me and it failed on it first trackday.

A little too much on the rev limiter during the SES sprint at Collie last October made a nasty noise from #2 under the rocker cover, so I guess it's spat a shim (WRX not Sti).

Haven't bothered to pull it apart yet, but I will take photos.

Having spent $16000 with them they wouldn't even give me a fixed quote for dropping a used long motor in just to get me up and running again.

The car got towed back to me with all the engine components in cardboard boxes on the back seat and in the boot.

I bought a PDF Workshop manual on ebay and spent around $600 on tools and rebuilt the bugger myself. I've never looked back and have done all my own work since.

Nice work on going the rebuild path yourself shame it happened in a shit way. it doesnt even look like they checked the valve clearences on the other cylinders as well?

It all went in the scrap bin apart from the Rods. I was quoted and paid for Carillos and when I opened it up there were Eagles in there. Annoyed was an understatement.

Surprisingly despite the damage to the pistons the rods were fine. They were checked measured and crack tested and were reused in my first build.

The heads were ported and polished so I'm assuming they were checked but you never know with half of these places what they do and don't do.

If my engines fuck up these days I can only blame myself.

Not too many breakages for me. I'm pretty sympathetic on cars.

#1 Brant. Fucked me over for a while. Ripped it out.

#2 Front right brake line. Came off it's clip, rubbed against the inner wheel until it cut a hole through it and punched out fluid when I went for the brakes one day.

#3 Top rad hose. Installed bigger radiator, thermo fan cut a hole through it on on a track day and it pissed out. Noticed before it even got hot thankfully.

#4 Power steering hose to the rack - was leaning up against the dump pipe. Burned a hole through it and it blew while turning one day pissing high pressure fluid onto a hot dump pipe. That was not good.

#5 Replaced the 5 speed with a 6 speed before I broke it.

#6 Typical split CV boot on the right front.

#7 Latest one, the A/C thermal expansion valve between the firewall and the evaporator.

#8 Clutch Issue, works in progress.

I think that's it.

This was my engine meltdown. Got one of those awesome internet tunes from "throttle crappy". Nek minnet, #2 piston was a molten puddle of fail. Turns out he had NFI how to tune.

Check out the molten piston that has coated the little end.

1. piston failure by caused by excessive boost and massively leaning out ... caused by not getting a retune done after removing a blocked up cat (they were factory forged 2l pistons). rods and crank survived.

2. set my engine bay properly on fire by not installing injectors properly.

both expensive lessons .. but lessons nonetheless :P
