Default Upgrading from EJ205 to EJ207, the details?

So I'm relatively new to the whole car stuff and the mechanical side of things.

Eventually, I want to pull the EJ205 out of my WRX and replace it with an EJ207. What actually goes into this process? I was thinking about also doing a transmission upgrade to the 6 speed as well when doing the engine swap.

My main concern is, what else needs to get done while swapping the engine, and what can remain the same for the time being? Like, will I need a different turbo? Or will the stock 205 one suffice, same as all the other parts that add on to the engine.
Just trying to gauge price etc for the time being and I'm also more curious than anything else.

Thanks for any help!

Also wasn't sure whether this was to go in the general section or under the Mechanicals section, mb.

Best speak to a workshop like Stechnic for advice and accurate pricing.

But for 207 swap with associated parts, budget around $7k

And 6spd swap in and out is around $5k

Hmm okay, have realised that an engine swap and tran swap is probably a bit too much and a friend suggested just rebuilding the 205 stronger and with a bigger turbo so, plenty of options when time comes for it :P

Is there anything wrong with the block though? Wait until a head gasket goes or big end, etc. Upgrade the turbo and do supporting mods, then worry about new engine when and if it needs it.

An EJ207 shortblock with EJ205 heads can be a stout package and will save you money compared to rebuilding the EJ205. There are plenty 207's are running big power on 98 (330hp) and even bigger numbers on E85 (360hp) so the block is very strong.

The only thing to consider is that 207 heads flow better then 205 heads but on a street car with a stock location turbo it isn't a huge issue.

what dan said^
I'm in the process of swapping an 207 into my bugeye so shoot me any questions you might have, but yes swap your heads onto the 207 shortblock, it will save you hours of head scratching at the wiring diagram and wiring up AVCS
