Default Is anyone running an oil cooler?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone was running an oil cooler on their cars and what their thoughts on it are? Any pro's / cons?

I've been considering a process west one, but I'm not sure if there is any point in getting one...

Cheers,

John

Greddy Oil Cooler Kit. Great for track days and when you are constantly belting your car. Also ditto to Hi Voltage

For Oil, Cooler does not always equal better!

If you do track days an oil cooler is a good idea.

But for everyday driving its not a good idea.

Oil coolers are designed to help overcome the stress and heat oil has to under druing constantly high RPM track racing. Oil has to reach certain temperature before it is able to obtain maximum lubricating efficiency. That temperature varies for each oil but Im told its usually around 90 degree celcius.

If you use your car mainly for street driving and you have an oil cooler you may end up reducing the temperature of the oil to the point you increase the rate of engine wear and tear.

If you really must get an oil cooler... I have seen thermostat activated oil coolers that will only cool oil when it goes above a certain temperature... But on the street, I doubt it will ever get hot enough for the thermostat to activate and allow oil through the cooler.

So Unless your a fooly sik hektik bling bling street racer Dont get an oil cooler for a street car

I second Mister two - If you want to put one on the Greddy kit comes with a thermostat (http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/g...l_cooler_kits/)

its not safe to run a oil cooler with out a thermostat on the street.

You might as well spen a little extra for a better product

Cheers for the feedback guys.

My car is mainly used as my day to day driver, but it will be getting the living daylights thrashed out of it as I get more involved in motorsport activities (just got to get better first )

Does the process west kit come with the thermostat? I have just seent the quality of the process west kit and was impressed for the price.
