I'm pretty sure ecutek uses the AFM or MAF if you want to call it that.
I think Simon (Polarbear) knows that it requires the AFM / MAF. He's asking why does it not work off MAP and Throttle and Zones like the Link ECU.

wai 11-08-2006 08:28 AM

HAHAHAHA
it was done by a certified mechanic at a proper workshop along with the other mods. so again, go try it on the "my06 sti" before u talk shit.
might work on other models though i dont know about that but since DeanMarine has a 06 as well i was telling him it wont work.

Intra 11-08-2006 08:40 AM

May we ask which workshop WAI?

Please.. speak out.. very interested.

You mention "other mods" , what other mods were they... a concrete slab perhaps?

Simply... Airbox has filter which runs to a 50 - 60mm inlet tube... tube fills with air.. air gets sucked into turbine intake tube... into turbo... compressed.. sent to intercooler.. cooled.. sucked into the throttle body... then into the manifold... mixed with fuel..

I fail too see how exactly it could do that...

Please enlighen us.

BALISTC 11-08-2006 08:43 AM

Running no airfilter, your car will still start.

Disconnecting AFM, your car will STILL start.

Simple as that. If your car wont start, something else is wrong.

Intra 11-08-2006 08:44 AM

If i brought over a K&N Filter.. would you be willing to show us or even allow us to try this?

Just for the sake of the argument/thread.

wai 11-08-2006 08:50 AM

yes, please go ahead.
K&N Pod Filter.

BALISTC 11-08-2006 08:57 AM

Ok done.

I'm donating my K&N for this challenge.

Intra 11-08-2006 08:58 AM

Ok.. im in the process of obtaining some parts for this trial..

BALISTC 11-08-2006 09:08 AM

I'll get my filter off the car, and i'll even go to the point of cleaning it and re-oiling it, as NEW...so there is no fudging involved.

wai 11-08-2006 09:10 AM

excellent

blackmy03 11-08-2006 09:12 AM

bring it on boyzz!!!!!!!!!

Intra 11-08-2006 09:18 AM

ooh car stripped you say...

Sooo no matter which way we slice it.. its already been fudged...

Which "Workshop" did the orginial test Wai?

Anyone out there with a MY06 STI (stock) who would not mind allowing us to try this out?

BALISTC 11-08-2006 09:25 AM

Yep, anyone else?

stinga 11-08-2006 09:39 AM

I have a APS CAI with a cleaned and reoiled K&N filter off my bugeye ready to go on my car.
I want a wager on it not working tho before I fit it, easiest carton I have ever made........ ;)
Al

wai 11-08-2006 09:44 AM

could be the distance from the MAF sensor and the filter also.
this is how mine was like

my HKS pod was approx that close to the AFM, and it was working fine
urg, you proove yourself to be more stupid every day

THE CAR WILL RUN WITHOUT THE AFM..

so even with it reading incorrectly it will run, it will stall out ocasionally, but it will run

whoever stuck your filter on must be a fuckwit, and porked something else up in the process, as even if the afm is FUCKED and not working, the car WILL run, i know this to be true because mine porked itself, it still ran..

so your whole though process of the pipe length and distance causing issues is utter rubish.. it can however cause issue witht he air turbulance, more a common problem in the nissna stuff as you can effectivly straight line the intake path and it looses that turbulance that the car needs ot get a correct AMF reading..

either way, your full of it..

pmh 11-08-2006 03:04 PM

Wai, did you purchase the Apexi filter from the same workshop that installed the K&N pod filter?

wai 11-08-2006 03:07 PM

let me clerify myself. based on mine.
car will start if the MAF sensor is unplugged.
car will not start if MAF sensor is plugged but out in atmo.
car will start with stock air box
car will not start without any filter.
car will not start with K&N filter.
car starts with apexi power intake.

wai 11-08-2006 03:08 PM
Wai, did you purchase the Apexi filter from the same workshop that installed the K&N pod filter?
yea

Denver 11-08-2006 03:09 PM

Josh 11-08-2006 03:13 PM

let me guess wai, Top Racing is where this work is being done?

pmh 11-08-2006 03:22 PM

I think the workshop may have pulled a swifty on you

teejay 11-08-2006 03:42 PM

I propose we do this test out on Brookton Hwy, and we film it on camera, then pass it over to the relevant authorities when we are caught.

tuna 11-08-2006 04:35 PM

Wai, you did take the rags out of the inlet when you put the K&N filter on didnt you ? :)

Giddyup 11-08-2006 04:55 PM

Fuck I had a cai with k&n filter and the afm unplugged and it started fine. AND I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CARS.

wai 11-08-2006 05:53 PM

what good does it do to bullshit about this?
thats how the car is and is fact

Andy 11-08-2006 06:36 PM
car will not start without any filter.
ok ok...

so with un restricted air, with the afm plugged in...it wont start???...

dude, do you ever type anything u actually think about?

blackmy03 11-08-2006 06:59 PM

wai, chuck your bong in the bin mate !!!!

Darren 11-08-2006 09:09 PM

Let me get this straight, you are saying that when you remove the filter from the airbox of your car, it prevents it from starting. And when you replace the filter back into the same airbox, it starts.

I don't know you wai so I'm not going to make a judgment of you but honestly, can you explain to me how that is technically- no forget that - LOGICALLY possible?

End of the day, the car does not know whether the filter is in or not. It does not have automotive ESP and cannot sense what brand filter is in the box. My advice Wai, is when advice is given to you, apply logic... You'll be amazed at the results...

Darren

WOAH!

DOES THAT MEAN IM THE WINNER OF A CARTON!!

EXCELLENT!

Drinks all round boys!

pmh 12-08-2006 01:15 PM

wai, rather than seeing this thread as a go at you, perhaps stop and think that maybe the workshop that did the work may have "encouraged" you towards the purchase of another filter

at the end of the day, no one likes to see another person getting ripped off
and if you're telling others that one filter causes a car not to start compared to another, then obviously everyone will be on your back about it, as its logically not right.
