Talking 96 STI clutch

Am fitting a 96 STI driveline out of a front cut that has done 100 000 ks to my brumby. It went well with an RS driveline so the STI with a little more boost should be good fun! I am going to fit a new clutch and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what brand, and model they have had good experiences with. I have driven a few with Exedy heavy duty fitted and they seem good but just want to put it to you guys and see what you reckon. Am going to do some drag racing and club circuit days but mostly street driven. Any suggestions?

Exedy HD Organic seems to be the popular choice for RS Liberty Owners becuase the clutch is very strong but doesnt have a sharp bite to it if you know what I mean.

Whatever you get, it needs to have a more gradual engagement. RS Liberty Gearboxes arnt known for thier strength. A button clutch for example will kill the RS gearbox very quickly.

I ran a 3 puck brass button with 3800lbs pressure plate for 9 years and didn't break the RS box, only just changed as it finally wore out last week. So a button clutch will not kill the gear box the bloke behind the wheel will.

BTW I fitted a hybrid 8 puck full face jobby form MMS and it has got to be the nicest clutch I have used in a long time. No shudder, clamps nicely.

Car has been down the qtr and more driving days than you can count.

You have done quite well not to break an RS Box with a button clutch. I have known of many who where not so lucky or skilled it seems

Yes , I would still recommend a Exedy HD Organic. Its a strong clutch with the abilty to give up a bit of slip. It helps to give smooth changes therfore reducing shock loading on the box and makes for much better and more tolerant daily drivability. Smooth shifting but still with a very good power handling. I have seen this clutch used with an EJ20 with 400hp at the flywheel.
