Smile WRX GC8 Servicing intervals

Hey Guys

I've got a 2000 Wrx GC8

Had it for about 7 months and only done roughly 3000 km's

Oil was changed last when I bought it.

Do you think I should look at getting it serviced soon? I know it's hardly been driven so just wondering what your thoughts are

Thanks!

Service every 5000km or every 6 months the car is sitting still.

Just do it every 5 - 6,000K's, it took me 4yrs to cover 5,000K's last time I changed it and the motor is fine, in fact I've only covered 70k in thirteen years so bugger changing it every 6 months, it's not like you are driving a Murcielago or at the track every second day, just make sure you use a good fully synthetic oil.

The reason its recommended to be done for time or kilometers, is condensation can build up inside the crankcase and collect in the oil. This happens reguardless of kilometers travelled, and is especially prevalent on short trip only vehicles.

You see this on grandmas cars that only ever go to the local IGA and bingo on thursday nights. The oil can become milky like the cars done a head gasket but its simply condensation thats formed in the crankcase and collects in the oil. And then the grandmas only do short trips and the engine never gets hot enough to boil the water out again.

Not saying this is gonna happen, but it can.

I would highly recommend changing your oil if the car has been sitting as condensation will appear in your oil. Also, chemical changes happen and the oil can break down and seperate. The oils lubricating properties can break down and even acids can form with the oil reacting to the metal and/or air for great periods of time.
Not changing your oil when the car has been sitting for long periods is bad advice.
