Default 2010 Sti cam locks

i have an MY10 WRX-STi-spec R, EJ257, 110,000km.

Can anyone recommend a complete timing belt kit for this car, also any advice on locking the camshafts while changing the belt. Ive seen videos of this procedure that are using two alloy “C” shaped brackets that clamp the cams in place while performing the belt change, are they commercially available or subi genuine only? Im a fitter machinist and have changed the belt on my old impreza 06 SOHC EJ20 with no issues, but new to the DOHC EJ257. Any advice appreciated as I have no desire to create a Sti paperwieght., thank you in advance

You only really need to worry about 2 or the 4 camshafts as they are on the valves and under spring pressure when at timing mark.

Company 23 make a bunch of subaru specific tools including a very handy timing belt lock. I think you could probs also find a universal DOHC kit on ebqy and make it work. I have used little line lock clamps in the past aswell to hold belts in place while doing Tbelt jobs.

Ring around for prices on the timing belt kit but only use genuine oem parts.

Cheapest price I got when doing mine was Diversion Garage in Brizvegas, I think Rising Sun are pretty competitive with pricing too.

There has been some issues with the factory timing belt kit ( bearing with orange seals )

I find the details and post it up soon

thanks for that, one more question, ....when the new timing belt is fitted, and all marks lined up, how many turns of the crank will it take for all the belt marks to line up again?

i brought the factory kit, a little dearer, but ...piece of mind, ....hopefully. You dont get the orange bearing anymore in their kit, you get 2x the black idlers

Dont worry about any marks on the belt itself. You should only be concerned with the timing marks on the cam and crank sprockets lining up witht he corresponding marks on the engine.

On a 4 stroke internal combustion engine. The crankshaft will do 2 full turns (720°) for every 1 full turn (360°) of cam shaft rotation. So if you turn the crank twice, all the timing marks should line up again. Any marks on the belt itself (if any) will not line up again. Bit the physical marks on the sprockets and engine must return to thier refference every 2 full crank rotations.
