06 STi - The Real figures

Ok just let me get this straight... im not trying to start a massive debate over the differences between one dynos figures compared to the other.

I wanted to share my experiences to help put some fact to the myth that has been built up on the 06 STi's and their "self destructive" tendencies when modified without an aftermarket ECU or flash. Like many other 06 STi owners i was concerned with modifying the car after certain workshops had indicated that simple intake and exhaust mods could cause the car to run lean and in some cases "self destruct". I was faced with the dilemma where threre were limited options in regards to fully programmable ecu's for the 06 due to the recently released fly by wire feature and i was not too keen on other options such as ECUTek or UTEC. So to be on the safe side i decided to go for the full turbo back zorst and intake (perrin silicon and cold air intake) and give the car a run on the dyno to check mixtures... this is what i found.

Just to note the car was dynoed in 4th gear and i gave the std ecu sufficient time to re-learn and possibly compensate for the above mods..

As you can all see the figures speak for themselves... AFR's in the low to mid 10's which is very safe and power peaking at 200.6Kw's @16psi. Some may say that the power figures are a little unrealistic but i have a direct comparison to another 06 STi that run before me (TBE, ECUTek, fuel pump) and dynoed 20kw's lower... Go figure... Belive me tho after owning other 200+kw rexs i can def say that the seat of the pants dyno is confirming those figures. I have noticed a little overboosting in third which will be sorted with an EBC and so far thats the only negative outcome.

Anyways im not trying to say that all the 06 STi owners out there are going to pull identical figures to me with the same mods so please before taking this as gospel do a power run to confirm... DONT BELIVE EVERYTHING YOU READ FELLAS!!

Im out...

nice, its running VERY rich.
Should have been done in 5th though.

what rpm's u hitting full-boost at ?

Its great to see that you did a power run.. now all those graphs sure are pretty.. but the real important thing here is... is it detonating?

did you actually have some sort of knock sensor amp or headphones on to listen for det?

they prolly they did pete.

the great "ant" works at xspeed (new flava of the month in tuning).

v5 sti 24-08-2006 11:53 PM

Actually they didnt... I asked Ant if he was gonna use em as i saw AJ tune the ole V5 with them and he said no.

i kinda find 800nm hard to swallow too

waxdass 25-08-2006 12:18 AM

Tode is on the money!

Nice write up champ... good to see that your going against the norm and trying things for yourself.

After going to see Sean last night at the Shed, I'm going to take a similar route, and if it becomes problematic, I'll then have a look at the reflash options. Same idea though, I'm going to do all of my mods, then dyno it and see how it goes. I'll let you know how I go.

:)
