I already did - great minds think alike.

"2 door STi, or 22b"

Some suggested luxury toyotas and what not, but the margin isnt any better and it would bore me to death.

you cant just buy a wrx from japan and register it, wrx's can only be imported for race/rally use and cannot be registered for every day driving. the only way to import one for road use is to live in japan and own it for over a year and apply to bring it back as a personal import.

Thats correct, and the duty you normally pay is from memory (Correct me if im wrong) 47% of the market value over here. However there is a small loophole in regards to the duty you pay, it may have changed now but in not sure.

If you can become friendly with a resident on Christmas Islands you can import a car straight from overseas (in their name) and have it shiped to Chris Island.

They own the car on the Island for 12 months after which you ship it here and purchase the car off them paying a significantly reduced ammount of duty . Once thats done apply for a PIP (Personal Import Plate) and register the car.

Bit of fuking around but can be worth it with the right car.
