yeh, 2.5's go to the dumping grounds, they unfortunately were a marketing mistake which they are going to have a hard time backing out of... since the 2.5's ive never heard of so many subarus consuming oil *before* even getting a rebuild.

I work for Subaru and two of my mates own 06 STis and they haven't had any problems. In regards to rebuilds are you talking about in the USA? Can't say I have heard of any here in Perth that have had issues... none which have been tuned by professional tuners. MMS have modded loads of 06s. There are a few 06 WRXs (not STis) on Rexnet with 200 to 258 KW atw. Plus with less mods as one of the other members 06 STi Spec C, my car on the exact same dyno, puts out more power and more torque, seems like a good motor to me! http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/showthre...9&page=3&pp=10 Finally, didn't the 2.5 Turbo get International Engine of the year? Can't be that bad. "2006 sees Subaru claim the top prize in the 2-litre to 2.5-litre category at the International Engine of the Year Awards with the replacement for its popular 2-litre turbo unit. The triumph is Subaru’s first-ever Awards trophy, its previous best having been a runner-up placing in 2004. The winning powerplant is a 2457cc four-cylinder DOHC housed in the Impreza and Forester." |

thats ok, when you get around to properly turning the wick up on yours, let me know how well it goes (or how long it lasts)
still... a power band that finishes at 5600 must be exciting.

My car is as modded as it will get. I learnt years ago not to overspend on mods, coz you end up with an oddball vehicle that when it comes time to sell, nobody wants and it is almost impossible to sell You know what I mean.
The power band may finish a bit lower in the revs, but the fun starts earlier too Edit: This motor is still more fun that my previous V5 STi that revved hard to 8,000 RPM. Last edited by RexcellentSTi; 08-10-2006 at 07:14 AM. |

the only way my car goes up for sale will be by auction at pickles, so resale isnt a concern.
your previous v5 sti must have been a slug, or tuned poorly- did it have a link?

I blame the Tuna fish in the great southern ocean that then get fed to those farty methane producing bovines as cowfeed.
We then in turn sell those marbled slabs of bovine meat to power the brains of the boffin Subaru Engineers who produced the marvellous EJ257. They must be smart as they made it an "export" only engine it was so good. SO TUNA ITS ALL YOUR FAULT !!!!! "So Long and thanks for all the fish" |
