Bung eye drivers!
Ok for those of you who drive an 01 WRX bug eye heres a few questions...
How much oil does your car go through? I got mine serviced by a top mechanic (Well i think he is anyway haha) Used castrol 5w30 Edge, same as he uses in his 06 pignose... Its done just over 6000 kms since service, and today while it was cold i checked oil....just below the bottom dot, started her up for 5 mins BARELY reading at all..Went on a frenzy calling people trying to figure out WTF happen. Drove it to the servo to see if they had any of that oil while i was there i decided to check the level again and it seems to have gone back to normal. So how much does yours use and is this a normal rex thing or cars in general? Second question is on idle there is a slight offbalance almost as if one of the plugs is missing BUT its not all the time and its not as vicious as a miss, Could it be time to change those plugs im not 100% sure if the platnums or iridiums got changed at 117 000kms which is when the timing belt etc etc was all done. It now has 156 000 kms on the clock Any enlightenment to this situation coujld be greatly appreciated PS Mods include 3" TBE Resonator removal Had a bleed valve for about 5000 kms but had been removed since and NO this issue did not start AFTER it was fitted and was only set to about 12psi |

i would say that using 5w oil over 6000k that the oil use would be normal. You should really service it every 5000k if you drive it hard anyway. Though subaru dipsticks are a bit funny to read at times, though i always go for the lowest reading on the dipstick as being the level the oil is at.

I use 5w30 Castrol Edge in my 15year old Legacy GT.
Over 5000km, my engine has never needed a top up of oil. If you have a oil catch can, is it filling up quickly? Also get a compression test for all the cylinders. Sometimes a single cylinder running a lower compression than the others due to what ever can feel and sound like a misfire.

Look at the surface your car is parked on, whilst your checking the oil.
Even a slight incline or decline will cause the dipstick to read funny...Subaru's are a bit funny like that, and need perfectly flat ground to get a good reading |

Mine idles slightly rough when its warm, but like you I wouldnt call it a miss. had it checked last service and they couldnt fault it. other people say they cant notice it when they are in the car but it pisses me off, maybe im just picky tho.

My bugeye loses about 200ml of oil every 6000kms or so, I had comp and cylinder leak tests done and everythings perfect. I just figured it was a turbo thing to lose some oil when you give it a hammer now and then. I even put a new turbo and gaskets in and same deal. Maybe I should put in a catch can.

No noticable oil loss from mine over the years, changed every 8k.
The drop your noticing is the engine hunting at idle....something to do with the ECU memory. Go to the workshop of your choice and see if they can plug in and do diagnos for you.... Mine did that a while back and was a minor issue in the ECU that once reset fixed the problem. Nothing major though.

would recommened putting the stock boost setup back in place.. MBC's are cheap and there's a reasonf or this too..
Have it checked out by a workshop who know what they are doing. I've had no real noticeable oil usage from my MY01, no real issues with idle either (including modded injectors). |
