Default Oil Advice

Hi all. Im looking for advice on what oil to use in my o6. Currently using Nulon 10w40 synthetic. I am thinking of changing to Castrol Edge 5w30. This is suposed to be for turbo fours ect. I change oil every 5k and filter every 10k. Does anyone use this oil and will it be ok to run in the pig, or should i stick to what im using.

cobia.

Yes, I use that exact oil in my car. Good stuff.

When you do your oil every 5K, you may as well do the filter at the same time. Its cheap and goes a long way toward the longevity of your engine

I use the same 5w30 Edge stuff too but i hear through the grape vine that its a bit too thin and that 10w40+ is better. I probably wont use it again as i like having a good set of big ends :P

I think 10w40 is perfect for a wrx but being a new car 5w30 should be ok!

Personally i would go Motul 300V Chrono 10w40

5w30 is probably a bit too thin for WRX.

The reason I use them is because the RS Liberty and to a lesser extent the Legacy RS/GT have oil supply issues in the head and can cause oil starvation of the lifters and hence cause tappet noise. Legacy's like mine are less prone to the problem as the JDM heads are slightly different and have better flowing oil galleries in the heads than the aus spec RS. But running thinner oil like the 5w30 helps.

I would recommend 10w40 for WRXs.

It's funny because on Castrols website,
for the 2.0ltr WRX 1994-2002
they recomend the 5w-30 or the 0w-40

Does that mean they are wrong?

Better off going for what Subaru recommend rather than what Castrol or any other oil company recommends.

Well 90% of my driving is country (sitting on 120kms) and it gets bloody hot out near kal so i might stick to the 10w40 and change oil and filter every 5k.
