Default Brant issues

If anyone can help my mate out with any info it would be greatly appreciated. This is a letter he wrote to Subaru.

Cheers!

I am writing in regards to my recent service on Friday 13th October. This is not a complaint, just an explanation of my predicament, and in the hope that you may have a satisfactory solution for me.

On the 9th August, my 2001 Liberty B4 was serviced for 62,500km interval at Subaru ***********. Since that service, I have been experiencing problems with the car stalling and not restarting, usually occurring when trying to start again after a brief stop. Also, a brief, but complete loss of power, has been intermittently occurring whilst cruising. So although "driveable", you would understand that my confidence in the car was a little diminished. I am not excited by the possibility of parking my B4 in the middle of an intersection.

I took the car to Subaru, and the mechanic was a witness to the problem, and informed me that his best guess was that it was the keypad module, but to be sure, I could leave it with them for a day, and they could look into it further. So the car was booked in for the Tuesday 29th august.

After retrieving my car, I was told that no problem could be identified, and that a trial and error approach was the only option. Replacing the keypad module would cost approximately $250, but would not guarantee my problem would be fixed. I decided to not go ahead with this. I'm not sure why. maybe the problem was going to magically go away. anyway, after a few more weeks, the problem was still there. no worse, but still there.

After realising Subaru would be more convenient to get to and from work, I rang your service department. Was quoted approximately $250 for the job, and duly booked the car in for Friday 13th October. During the day of the repair, I was called by Subaru, and he told me the problem had been found. It was the keypad module, and had to be replaced, along with a diode. the job would now cost $395, as it is a "tricky" job. I was a little disappointed at the price hike, but, would be happy if the problem was put behind me.

MY PROBLEM: The problem has not gone away. the issue with stopping then restarting, may have improved a little, but the stalling whilst cruising has become worse.

I'm not sure what I should do. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated

May sound stupid, and im sure it would have been checked... But wen i first brought the wrx i had issues with the brant keypad in that i figured it was in auto arm mode. It wasn't however so when i thought i was disabling it, i was actually enabling it. Although i never had the issue of it cutting out...

Try two aspirin, and remember if pain persists. Always see your doctor! (Or local RMS Service Specialist)

It's an earthing issue....

I had exactly the same problem - and the boys at alberts upgraded the earths on my car and the problems went away.

Subaru are retards - however they finally did a recall of "some" cars, in which the earthing was upgraded.

Might be worth a try....
