Nah TBH i think it was something else. Contrast would be a sensible answer but the lights i saw were much "sharper" and brighter than on a normal cloudy day!

i also "googled" this with no outcome... dont know bout you peeps but another thing i have noticed is on older dashes with white lights glowing through the white numbers, during thunderstorms they become green!!! i noticed this one arvo in a mates silvia, it made us scared and i am led to believing there may be aliens living among us who play with lighting equipment during thunderstorms..........you with me?

i believe its not aliens but the wert effect in play here once again
most likely caused by inductance within the bulbs themselves and the charge in the air. |
