windscreen replacement

had a nasty rock smash my windscreen this morning on the way to work, luckily i have RAC free windscreen cover, anyone have a any recommendations/good experiences to replace it? any places to steer clear of?

If insurance is paying, I would use one of the big names ie Novus or O'Brien. Cost a buttload more than others but have decent back up if there is a prob down the track. You pay for insurance so spend their money... :)

Windscreens obrien in Bunbury did my wifes my06 and it was better than new untill she copped another rock......we could not tell the difference other than it was shiny clean

yeah been on the phone to RAC and they have organised a replacement from instant glass, pretty stoked as they asked if i had a heated one (& i do being a lux pack) so it will be replaced with a genuine subaru item, no doubt will have to wait a week for it to get here but would rather wait than get a generic one that doesn't fit perfectly and have no windcreen de-icers - seeing as all those frosty morning we get here :D

Yeah I wanted a genuine one too, but subaru spare parts down here wouldnt order one in as they also used windscreens obrien for there waranty replacements

they don't make the aftermarket ones with the de-icer strips in them is the only reason they have to supply me with a genuine one

I thought I'll add to this thread, on Thursday I was driving to Perth from Carnarvon and a truck drove passed and whipped a rock into my windscreen and cracked it. I insured my car with Just Car, and they don't have a windscreen replacing policy as all other insurers do, and to do a claim from them they wanted me to pay a excess of $1050. So i said forget it. I called around asking for quotes, Obrien was dear as they wanted $480 for a new windscreen fitted. Called a few other places they were around the $300 mark. I did a google search and found Autoscreens, $270 supplied and fitted. He came around this morning and did the job and he did a great job of it. So if you gotta replace your windscreen at your own cost I would reccomend you call Jason from Autoscreens on 0400 200 086. Austral Windscreens, we use them at work when we have to replace windscreens with genuine parts.
they do a really good job, never had any problems at all

good tips on the raw windscreen replacements costs, sometimes its easier to just pay yourself then be bothered with the insurance hassles!

Has anyone ever had the scenario where they have been driving and been basically sandblasted by a truck (behind it) , and had shitloads of sand engrained into the windscreen? Basically the sand will not come off. It's like the sand is glued to the windscreen.

When using the wipers it's no longer smooth and unpleasant. Rubbing your hand over the windscreen you can feel all the sand.

Any easy ways to fix, or up for a complete replacement?

Going to try and high pressure hose it but not confident it will get the sand off.
