Reintroduction
Hi everyone,
My name is Joe, I'm 24 years old and I've been a part of Perth WRX for around 5 years now. This forum started a few years ago, and before that it was a very small group of people (probably around 20), that used to talk on Yahoo groups and mIRC, and meet up fairly regularly for cruises and social events. Many of the original people have moved on to bigger and better things (and vehicles), and a few of these people are now some of my dearest and closest friends. They know me very well, but the majority of people on here don't know me well, and only know me from what they have read in my posts. The aim of this "reintroduction" is for those newer people to know who I am, what I drive, and why I'm here. I drive an MY02 WRX, which I bought new in 2002. When you own a car for 5 years, it gets fairly modified. Back in 2002, there were hardly any mods around compared to now. Exhausts cost 2000 bucks, intercoolers were 3000 bucks and ECUs were few and far between. Your choice was Link, Autronic or MoTeC, and anything else was obscure and unknown. Workshops were very limited also, with RMS, MMS and RT being the big 3. Now, things have changed. Mods are cheap thanks to China, workshops are many, and new parts have been released. Because of this, my car has seen quite a few incarnations and many different components. I've owned 2 different ECUs, and have been around friends with all sorts. Our regular saturday morning installs at Jme's shed in Wangara, means that even though I owned a car with certain mods, I've experienced, driven and been around WRXs with all sorts of mods. I know what works, and what doesnt, because of the cars that I've been exposed to. Now, for my car: 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Engine: K&N pod filter AVO Silicon intake pipe FP TD06-20G turbo TurboXS FMIC HKS SSQV BOV Gutted and ported TGVs STi heads and valvetrain - Ported and polished, knife edged splitters Wade billet camshafts 278 duration 9.6mm lift (similar to JUN 264s) V7 STi RA Spec C EJ207 short motor ARP head stud kit, STi metal head gaskets X-Force equal length wrapped headers 3" turbo back exhaust custom built by Race Torque Engineering Bosch Motorsport in-tank fuel pump Sard 650cc injectors Motec M800 plug and play ECU, with antilag MAC 3 port boost solenoid Brakes: Fairly stock, with Bendix Ultimate front and rear pads Suspension: HSD Type-HR Coilovers HSD camber plates Whiteline front 22mm sway bar Whiteline rear 24mm sway bar Whiteline rear sway bar links Whiteline front spherical sway bar links Whiteline Anti-lift kit Whiteline front under brace Whiteline rear diff support bushes Whiteline steering rack bushes ConceptWerks fender braces Exterior Mods: Subaru Factory Option body kit including: front lip rear lip side skirts STi grille badge STi bonnet scoop Clear indicators Version 7 STi Mesh foglight covers Work VS-XX 18x7.5 rims Falken FK-04 GRB 225/40/R18 tyres Drivetrain: S T O C K. Performance: Has previously run a 12.74 @ 174km/h with a VF22 and Link ECU, and stock EJ205 motor. Thats when it had 290ps at the hubs, on 20 psi. Has now made 340ps on same boost, with more to come when I get around to fitting a clutch and winding 24+ psi into it. I'm aiming for as close to 400ps as I can get, and an 11 second pass. Intended Role: 11 second street car, with factory like reliability and decent drivability i.e. I dont want a pig, I want to be able to jump in and drive it whenever I like. Awards: Runner up Slalom, Motorvation 2004 Winner Go-Whoa, Drag Combat 2004 Featured in Hot 4s mini feature 2004 Featured in Perth Street Car full feature 2006 Thats my car, and if you find me giving an opinion about any particular part, or with certain advice on anything to do with any sort of WRX modifications, its because I've either had the part myself on my car, a friend of mine has had the part on their car, or I've read it somewhere and its been backed up with suitable evidence. 5 years of this sort of learning has meant that I've seen, heard, read and learned a fair bit, and although I dont give too much away, I do when its required of me and I'm more than willing to help whoever requires it. Feel free to ask me specific questions if you think I can answer them, and if you need any sorts of parts, especially fuel pumps, ask me because I sell them through my business.
