I only had 3rd party on my first couple of cars then due to working 6 weeks on 1 week off went to renting cars ( MGF's MR2's etc )

When I bought the first WRX @ 27 no one wanted to touch me as I hadn't had comprehensive.

Ended up getting a letter from the rent-a-car crowd I had been going through and my employer of five years stating no issues and ended up getting it quite cheap.

Proving a clean driving history makes a huge differance weather you have held the insurance in your name or not.
