Hey guys

I got my hands on an '06 wrex

Unfortunately it's in a few pieces, so I'm putting it back together.
The previous owner said the engine is running rough, bearing is gone or something... that's before he cannibalised it and sold the turbo and AC compressor to his buddy.

So a rebuild is in order. Not to mention I'll be buying a large turbo. I like to fiddle and customise things - it's in my nature, I'm an engineer.
I'm hoping for about 400hp to 500hp at the wheels.

I bought my lovely wrex (I'm yet to give her a name, but working on it) just last week, and before that I didn't know much about subaru's so I'm a bit ignorant on some of the technical detail. I'm hoping to learn quickly.

I'm particularly interested in engine weakness (how hard can you boost it, what you need to upgrade) and gearbox weakness.

My best mate has an '06 STi, so I'm aware that the performance is grandiose~ :) I'll try to convince him to join the site, and maybe we can tag along in a cruise.

My other car is a 300ZX twin turbo, the bike is an aprilia RSVR. The gf isn't impressed, she believes that something has to go. If she doesn't watch out, it could be her! haha j/k

Anyways, hope to see you guys around.

Cheers,
Matt.

Welcome.

400-500hp is a big ask straight up. Will probably need EJ257, sleeved, lots of other engine work, big turbo, lotsa boost, injectors, fuel pump, front mount, ecu to run it all and a lot of other stuff.

Then you will need to upgrade the clutch and gearbox and a heap of other stuff.

Good luck :D

Yeah what he said. 300-400 would be a more realistic vision on a car you intend to drive daily.

welcome aboard Matt, hope you picked up a bargain! Plenty of info here if you dig a bit so the search function will be your friend. You must have plans if you are looking to get 400-500 hp ? 300ZX twin turbo too, have you had any electrical issues with it by chance?

re-reading through tino's thread and i find myself quoting myself as i think it applys here.
sorry to break the news to ya big fella, but everything we are doing has been done before, with varying degress of success but mostly heartbreak!

the original don, mario torborac's [WRX-350] JUN 2.2 APEXi/IHI RX77 Turbo MoTeC. on the giggle gas made 385kws at the wheels, lasted? a few dyno runs!! timeline is the real impressive thing here, 2001! 7 years later we are all still playing catch-up and one by one finding out why he shifted all his attention to a GTR, because, sadly power in a wrx is like a bogan without a mullet, u see them once in a while, but u know they just went bald over the years!

alas, power to you tino, keep combing that mullet brother!
GTR ETA runs ~550hp at the hubs on a stock EJ207 and GT35R turbo IIRC. And that thing gets BASHED on cruises and drags and street.

not THAT hard to achieve if you have the know how id' say.
