Well done on getting rid of the ugly wrx spoiler. Where did you get the naked boot from?

Thanks.
Not entirely sure mate, my spray painter found one locally and not from Subaru directly. I got lucky I think!

Took last Friday off and decided to give my wheels a refurbishment as they have copped a bit of kerb rash in their time. A couple of hours each day and the wheels were back on yesterday. 8 of the 10 days was spent sanding, priming, bogging, sanding and sanding!

I followed Simon's awesome write-up

I'm pretty retarded when it comes to DIY so I'm quite happy with how they turned out. My only disappointment is that they aren't as glossy as before when they were powder coated. Anyway, pics....

Cleaning...

Sanded...

Colour on...

Finished product!

Looking excellent. 2 Questions:

1. Did you remove any of the wheel balancing "cards"?
2. How did you go about painting them? Can, spray booth?

Keen to fix up my 02 sti gold wheels in a similar fashion

Cards? If you mean the weights, I didn't remove any of the wheel balance weights as they are out of sight anyway. I did spent a long time however, cleaning off the adhesive for previous weights.

Spray can job in the garage mate. As much as I enjoyed the smell, I left the door up. I kept the garage clean during the process and it wasn't too windy in there.

Fair enough, and yes I meant the weights :P (woops)

How many coats of paint, and did you clearcoat them afterwards?

As per RoughStilin's write-up, 3 cans of paint and 2 cans of clear.

Worked out to be 1 can of black just on the insides of the wheels, and two cans did about 3-4 coats on the outside. Used just under 2 cans of clear for 4 coats on outside only.
