Further food for thought - I believe I can get a VF34 turbine/compressor machined to fit the VF46 housing into the Liberty turbo to avoid all the TMIC connection and other associated problems.

Is this an "upgrade"?

Will be be a good upgrade. Cooler might restrict you a bit though. How small are the Lib coolers??

I'd say it's an upgrade, not an "upgrade"
