Usually the people who buy cars like that at auction intend to repair and resell them so there's a good chance it'll be back on the market. There's no reason why that car couldn't be as good as it was before the accident.

'Written off' doesn't relate to the level of damage or the repairability of a car, it's just the insurance company chose not to for economic reasons....and judging by the amount it sold for at auction it was a wise decision.
