Hey, can i join in?

Hey mate,

I'm Alvin, nice to meet you. I've seen some Perth WRX stickers on the roads so I figured it's a good idea to join up.

I currently drive an '09 Mazda 3 but I'm looking to upgrade to a WRX in the next few weeks, exciting times! I'll have to sell the Mazda first though, and I'll have to add some cash on top so I'd have a budget of about $20k... I'm considering the peanut eye WRX as it should be in my price range. It's quite a performance upgrade!

There's some nice examples on carpoint, and there's also a few modded ones for sale in the forums here. The idea of buying a modded rex is quite appealing because I don't know much about cars, it'd be great to buy a beast of a car straight up and just bring it in for regular servicing. I'd like to learn a bit about the car itself too, it all seems really interesting.

Just wondering what precautions I should take when buying a modded car? Anything in particular I have to be careful about?

Cheers, and I hope to meet some of you one day.
Alvin

Welcome. Get an sti if you can stretch it. There are some nice 02 sti's for sale.

Get a decent subaru specialist workshop to check any car you are thinking about. MMS, Stechnic, ASG, Evo R, Race Torque etc.

ImPreSiV 05-04-2012 09:59 AM

Welcome Alvin.

Probe is selling a silver MY05 wrx with STI motor and lots of goodies in it. It's a GREAT car and at $23k, excellent value for money.

I wouldn't be looking anywhere else at the moment if I was in the market

Happy hunting. When you get a car and need a sticker, let me know.

Hello Alvin,

Yes you may join in lol

Depends what you wanna use the car for, but there are quite a few examples on this site!

Good thing about this community is if someone tries to sell a shit car, everyone bashes them.

Something seems mighty odd about the first post... can't quite put my finger on it.

kid 05-04-2012 01:35 PM

Too nice....possible rapist

mac29 05-04-2012 04:19 PM

Thanks for making me feel welcome! And despite popular belief I'm not a rapist... I'm just a 20 year old uni student in my 3rd year of Civil Eng! I have however, been told plenty of times I'm a really nice guy, so maybe it comes across wrongly? Who knows lol.

I'll tell you a bit more about myself; I'm ABC (Australia born Chinese) so I've been in Perth my whole life and love it here. I bought a cheap Lancer to learn in and got my P plates as soon as I could, when I turned 17. So maybe I'm too young to own a WRX, but I've been driving ever since I could. Dad bought me a Mazda 3 as the Lancer was getting old, and he said he'd like me to keep the 3 for for a year or two just so I get more comfortable on the roads. After driving for 3 years plus, I've never been in an accident and I think it's time to enjoy my motoring a bit more. I've been saving up as I work at NIB/Paterson's Stadium at the bar, so if you're ever down at the sports stadiums, look out for me! In my spare time I enjoy lifting weights (competed at 3 powerlifting competitions at Muscle Pit), basketball (been playing for 14 years) and I recently started muay thai! So that's how a rapist lives his life.

Cheers for sharing the links, the STi going for 20k seems amazing for the car it is, however, the mileage is close to 100k (expected for a car of that age) and the power on that thing is kinda scary for someone like me coming from a 108kW commuter. Even upgrading to a WRX would be a world of difference, the STi can be the dream for when finish uni!

There are three listings which interest me for now, but they're all asking for close to 22k though... I'd like to test drive them and see how they are, but my heart has decided I want a rex already! Just from the listings, which car would you have most interest in and is there anything that really stands out (good and bad)? Thanks in advance.

This thread he posted here is kinda worrying:
http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/mechanicals/46164-my05-info.html
But I guess nothing's wrong with it?
STi engine is pretty cool too!

http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/sale-cars-only/47772-time-move-05my06-wrx-sale.html
Self serviced, is that okay? Pig nose model is a plus, newer car and 2.5L engine! However, mileage on that is similar to the 20k bug eye model which would seem like better value...

wild_rx:
http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/sale-cars-only/42716-fs-my03-wrx.html
Really clean car it seems, lowish kms and nice looking mods!

All three cars have been modded and tuned which is excellent, that means I can just plug in the key and enjoy the ride! It's scary to think that these cars make more power at the wheels compared to what the the Mazda 3 makes at the engine!!!

Thanks for your time!

dinski 05-04-2012 04:26 PM

welcome mate, hope you find what your looking for and enjoy.

Brett Allan 05-04-2012 04:30 PM

Personally, try and fin yourself a low km Bug STI

so much better value for money....stay clear of the white bug STI for sale in ellenbrook, it is under finance with the owner only taking ou the loan in January, he is trying to sell it for a lot more than it is worth, plus the pain is shit.

A nice clean peanut is also a good option, as well as a very low km 06 WRX sedan, I have seen a few of them in the past months with ~ 60,000 on the clock for 22K at a dealer...shop around and wait for the right one to pop up :)

Good luck with the search!

Probe 05-04-2012 04:35 PM

Ah mate I was probably stressing a bit with my first post. The car is perfect but unfortunately I am moving north on the weekend of the 21st. The new motor hasn't even done 15k so it still has more HP to give. After owning it for 5 months I can't fault it. Test drives welcome.

edit....buy before 2006 :)

kid 05-04-2012 04:57 PM

Are you amac off OCAU?

mac29 06-04-2012 10:12 AM

So I've narrowed my options down to a peanut WRX, bug eye STi and maybe even the STi coupe that scoobygez is selling on here:
http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/sale-cars-only/48293-sti-version-5-coupe.html
I'm really loving the look of the classic style coupe, as my lancer was a coupe before so I have a soft spot for them! Yes, I'll stick to cars before 2006, not only for the better engine, but because I can't afford anything newer! haha

Anyway, not much I can do now until I actually go out and test drive some cars and report back, I'll keep you all updated! Price is also an issue as I might only get 17-18k for the Mazda and was planning to only add a few k on top...

Cheers for all your advice and tips, it's all really helpful for a noob like me.
Are you amac off OCAU?
That's me!!!

98kellrs 06-04-2012 11:56 AM

Welcome, nice intro!

If you plan on keeping the car a while its worth shelling out a few $$$ now and get the perfect car than regret it and spend the next few years wishing you had something else IMO.

Its good to see prospective buyers joining, normally we just get the 'Ive just bought a wrx, tell me what to do to make it faster' types.

aC- 06-04-2012 03:05 PM

Welcome aboard my fellow ABC! We shall one day take over...

+1 for peanuts! But i am biased.

P.S. You do civil @ Curtin?

Better not be relating that to JDMWA..

TheDoctor 06-04-2012 05:23 PM

Welcome to the club mate. If I was looking to buy a WRX again I would go for an MY99/00 STI. Just like others have said though I'm biased too.

mac29 15-04-2012 08:47 PM

Cheers guys for making me feel welcome, I've been reading around this site for the past few weeks and it's a great forum, glad to be a part of it.

So I've been searching for a decent WRX for the past few week, I was about to test drive Probe's MY05 WRX but we both had work commitments and couldn't meet up. I was planning to test drive it this coming Friday when he's back in town...

Until I saw Sethor's MY05 STi drop to 26k. It was outside my budget but from all the positive feedback on here and on facebook, I knew it was at least worth a test drive. Despite nearly stalling the car on my first take off (heavy clutch compared to the Mazda), my Dad and I fell in love with it right away, we agreed on a price, shook hands and the rest is history. Thank you so much to Sethor, a really nice and genuine guy. He's taken damn good care of this car and I'm privileged to have this car passed down to me. All log book servicing have been stamped off, all receipts have been kept, 20k km on the new EJ207 engine, it's everything I wanted.

Hopefully we can pick up the car by Tuesday evening. I still can't believe this car will be mine in a few days, it really is my dream car! My savings for uni fees has been depleted though (gotta go on HECS now ), but for that boxer sound and turbo spool, it's totally worth it! I drive like a granny and the way Sethor drove the STi around made me wet my pants!

Thanks once again to everyone who has helped me and said hi. To be honest, the Perth WRX community was a factor in buying a WRX/STi, it's just a great community I'd like to be a part of. I hope to meet some of you one day, whenever the next cruise/meet is and I'll definitely need a Perth WRX sticker!

Cheers!
Alvin
