Default Young fella looking to buy GC8 WRX- advice

Hi guys,
I'm currently driving a MY11 2.0R hatch, It's obviously fairly gutless so I'm looking at getting something a bit faster.
My budget realistically is around 8-9k, I have my mind set on a MY99-00 and was wondering if it's possible to find something decent within that price range or if anyone on here knows of anyone selling a nice 99-00 GC8 in perth. Any advice you have for me on the matter is appreciated!

Cheers

If you can afford it you can pick up a bugeye for around 10ish.
Newer chassis, has more features and looks better than a gc :-)

My advice as a young fella who just did this.

Buy a 2003-2005 WRX. I bought a relatively decent GC 2 years ago for 12,000. I spent 18 Grand on mods, repairs, upgrades and maintenance. Everything apart from Engine and Gearbox.

It was still shit compared to the GD's.

If I had my time again, I would have saved up for a 2005 STi in the first place.

Im now driving a 2010 RS 2.0 Sport, as that was the only way to force myself to save any money for a house deposit.

I disagree ^

I have had two GD's in the past. And now i have a m00 gc8 and i love it so much more. Yeah its older, but if you can find one that has been treated right it shouldn't be a problem. The lightweight makes it a lot better to drive imo.. What features doesn't it have that a GD does?? Cruise control is the only thing i have noticed.

You forgot to mention you sold it for 4k. Would've been a bargain for this young chap?

Body is so much more rigid and well built. Yeah its heavier, but after you do all the mods to a GC to bring it inline with a GD you have added weight to it anyhow. Ask dtrally he knows alot more than I do, but he has quite a list.

You spent 18 grand on your GC after purchase cost? Wtf! Are you serious! On what??? How long did you own it for?

I have spent no where near that much on mods/ maintenance etc. and I have had mine for nearly 6 years. And I know I would get a hell of a lot more than 6k for my car....

Not to mention I use it as a daily driver which is super comfy and and believe it or not good on fuel (about 10litres per 100km). Plus it is lighting fast. Couldn't get a better car for the coin. Including bugeyes etc if you ask me. Hence why I haven't upgraded even though my accountant has been telling me to for years!

I reckon I could go and buy a car 4 times more expensive and it wouldn't put as big a smile on my face...

I bought one, stripped it to a shell, changed panels, front end, entire interior, wheels, suspension, bought bigger turbo and cooler and still didnt spend 18k!
