Hi all,
I figured I would get around to posting an introduction at some point. I've gone from an '05 RS to recently (a year ago) making the biggest investment of my life to date... an '08 White STi. Since then I've bolted up an Invidia TBE and had it tuned by Mao at Evolution R. Future plans for the betty are as follows (hopefully by the end of the year: - Blouch Dom1.5XTR with 8cm exhaust housing - CAI - TMIC - Equal length headers - 1000cc injectors and fuel pump - Pumback BOV and 3 Port BCS Good to finally get something on here and get a bit more involved... Here's a couple of pics of old and new, and just the new. |
Welcome! Glad to c another betty sti owner here.
Just an advice. Dont bother with a tmic, get turbo inlet and boost & oil pressure gauge instead. Maybe add an aos /catch can to the shopping list too. Enjoy ur car. using the Perth-WRX mobile app |
Welcome. Have a read through this thread. http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/mechanicals/58985-turbo-supporting-mods-08-wrx.html Will give you a great idea on what you are likely to achieve numbers wise.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase and good modding plans.
1.5xtr is a great choice IMO, the same turbo I used on my 08 betty (non sti). A very responsive turbo that makes good power. Look forward to seeing more from your ride as you go along :) |
Welcome and congrats on the purchase!

Best advice ... take all the advice with a grain of salt.
Mate has the Blouch 1.5XTR and its very responsive and powerful to say the least. Would have generated more power but probably held back by the OEM TMIC. But hey ... get a oil n boost guage. By the time you realise you have no oil pressure it'll be too late and bitches love a boost guage. |

Cheers for the advice guys, I'm more than happy to listen...
As for the Catch Can, that is one thing that I forgot to mention, but definitely in the budget... I haven't really looked into the gauges as yet... have you guys got any recommendations off the top of your head? or at least recommended brands to focus on? Also, cheers for the link HowlFactor, good read... |

As for gauges, any quality brands would do it, defi racer/BF(cheapest ones r from EVO R), AEM (prospeed racing) etc. just put oil pressure sensor on top of the crank not bottom imo. |

I'm getting you one for Christmas. :D |

As for the gauges, I might as well just tack another couple on my order from Prospeed for some AEM ones, should have a little room in the budget for them |

Finally had the work done... happy with the results, making 361 WHP and 515 NM at 1.4 Bar (graph attached) with BP98.
The additions are as follows: Blouch Dom 1.5XTR with 8cm housing (damn sexy snail... never thought I would be saying that) Turbosmart IWG75 Wastegate actuator Process West CAI Process West TMIC PSR UEL headers with ceramic coating ID 1000cc injectors Blouch 3 port solenoid Deatchwerks 65C fuel pump Turbosmart Plumb Back Blow off valve The previous tune was done with Invidia Turboback exhaust making 282 WHP and 445 NM. (Graph attached). All tunes and fitment was done by Mao at Evo R, he said there was no fitment issues with anything, although the turbo with actuator is pretty tight just by looking at it. |
Looks good, im assuming its tuned on E85 based on injectors pump and 1.5bar? You should take it down to the drags and get a time, its a much more accurate way to compare against other cars with different mods.
|
1.5xtr and peak torque at 5000 rpm.
Congrats I think ...
I'm getting you one for Christmas. :D
Where's my present Mitch? |
Forgot to mention... tuned on BP 98, and it was 1.4 Bar (mistype)
I went the OS injectors and pump in case I do decide to go the E85 (if a station opens up in the future nearby) Definitely keen to take it to the drags in the near future, I'm heading to the RAC track in January (with the Mustang club with my dad, should be fun to upstage a few big blocks with the little rocket) |
Well avoided ... Seriously I can name multiple cars where the tune with those mods and turbo would have peak torque at 3500 odd.
Guess you got to be beating at a fast pace to make mayo? |
Here's a small comparison for you.
I get ~430nm torque at 3800rpm which as you'll see is the same time as the turbo has kicked in. Then I have a dip and rise again after that, which I am told is something the EJ25s are prone to but I could be wrong. Looking at your sheet however and you're only making 260nm at the same rev range? Again I'm not the most knowledgeable person here so I've been holding my tongue, but it seems as though every EvoR tune I see comes with disappointingly laggy results. Don't want to take the wind out of your sails either, I'd be stoked with 360hp, but the response looks like it leaves a lot to be desired. Dyno sheet attached for reference. Same turbo, pump, and injectors as you. I am on E85 however. |

These are the figures i was seeing in my research, hence the suspicion with a possible turbo mixup. Also, I got a call from Mao mid tune explaining that he was trying to reduce the lag as much as possible but wasn't having much luck with pre 4500 rpm which was a bit of a disappointment. |
Excellent turbo.
Shit tune. Take it to ASG and prosper. |

Tune looks good to me. Nice results mate. Lag is what gears are for. haha
|
Had my first full day off in a while and the betty was looking especially ugly. A few hours of TLC and the paint and windows are better than when I did the first detail.
Adam's clay bar kit was the deciding factor imo, the finer clay bar with the detail spray took absolutely everything with it (including on all windows once the clay was a bit too dirty), followed by Meguires Ultimate polish and 2x coats of NXT tech wax 2.0. Unfortunately the phone's camera has kicked the bucket so no photo's, but it's a white car, so you get the picture... |
Hey there!
Nice car.. Love the white Betty.. makes me miss mine. |
Have a feeling yours might have made it's way to Kal! If not, it has a twin :D

Hi guys, I've done a little bit of a search re silicon intakes and there doesn't appear to be much difference between the brands in terms of quality/performance. Was just wondering if anyone has their 2c to put in re particular brands recommended or otherwise?
|
Make sure it is at least 4 ply and that it kicks sideways to comfortably clear around the TGVs.
|
Thanks mate, that's all i really needed to know (measure of quality etc)
