My 2011 wrx

2 Attachment(s)
Hi, Ive been on here a while but never got around to posting anything, I bought my wrx in may 2015 completely stock and have recently just spent big on rebuilding the motor when i found out the big end bearings had failed. while the car was in pieces the lads at all star garage did the following:

Forged Manley Pistons and Conrods
Killer B oil pickup
Race bearings
the cylinder heads were also reconditioned
New Exedy HD clutch
KAKUMEI UEL headers
ARP head studs
And it also had its major service while it was in there too
I have installed a 7'' kenwood touch screen head unit and an under seat sub.

Earlier in the year i had an ultrex turbo back exhaust installed along with their tune and it made 240 hp atw on factory boost before it was rebuilt.

Once my bank account recovers i will look at doing the following:

New top mount intercooler
cold air intake
boost gagues/boost controller
very happy with the driving experience in my subie and its by far the best and fastest car I've ever owned.

That dyno sheet is from today, when i just picked it up after it got retuned after being run in, i think Sean at asg upped the boost to about 18 psi i think.

I'd be keen to hear about people with a similar car to mine and any mods you would or wouldn't recommend, I think i have a good building block to get some decent figures out of it. :)

Welcome aboard. Great/painful intro.

Cold air intake isn't worth doing unless the noise is what your after.

Any reason why Sean didn't tune it more aggressively? If it is run in, it has got a fair bit more in it with the oem turbo.

Flex tune it when your are ready and enjoy!

I tried putting on a process west intake when i did the exhaust but Sean couldn't tune it properly, i have since heard this is common. I might just get a K&N filter for my factory air box.

Not too sure, i did tell him its my daily drive and didn't want anything too hectic, honestly i was expecting a higher figure, but it does drive well in the rev range I'im in the most so i suppose ill stick with it until i get a new cooler and see what i can do.

Whats a flex tune?

Also, if i find an top mount intercooler off of an sti, will it bolt on with no modification. (i realize ill need a retune)

No, the sti intercooler won't fit. One of the experts on here will give you the details why I'm sure, as I remember pursuing this previously.

A flex tune will allow you to run both standard 98 octane fuel and e85.

Ok no worries, was also looking at the process west verticooler, seems to get a good review.

Oh yeah, ive seen how they do it on mighty car mods, do you know if thats something all star can install and tune?

Goosey 03-09-2016 08:11 AM

I personally haven't used one, but if he's still around on here, I remember "ALLPAWS" used to run one on his. Maybe he'd be able to give you some feedback?

I can't see why ASG wouldn't be able to do the flex tune. But as far as I know, this requires you to run different fuel lines, pump and injectors as well.

ASG should be able to flex tune it with VERSO, but best to still chat with them a bout your options because as Goosey outlined its almost a full fuel system change out for ethanol safe components.

As for intercooler upgrades Process west offer you three options:
PW Verticooler - good design, higher undisturbed airflow through cooler, but at a higher cost then a normal TMIC.

PW Topmount Intercooler - no longer in production for GR WRX but can be found second hand, good upgrade over stock with multiple units shown to be able to handle over 330hp on pump 98.

PW Frontmount Intercooler - offers the best flow and HP support, but most expensive, most likely have to cut various supports and panels to fit and in my opinion not worth the effort unless you will be shooting for +400hp.

There are other kits on EBAY that all say they fit GR WRX's and that outflow Process West but I am yet to see one that fits properly and uses a decent intercooler core. So stick with a trusted brand, especially since you out a lot of money into the current engine.

To get the most out of the new engine a larger turbo and intercooler combo would finish it off nicely :)

I dont think verso can do flex its more an open source thing ... best off calling nic or sean and asking directly

Id be pretty hesitant putting cheap ebay stuff on my car considering what i just shelled out on it.

Flex tune sounds tempting but i think ill look at that when e85 is more available, and i might be able to source bigger injectors and an uprated fuel pump in the meanwhile.

Cheers for all the advice so far
