Default Hey! New owner of a 99 GC8 WRX here!

Just picked the car up yesterday. Completely stock!

Coming from an NA forester, so of course I'm loving the lack of weight this car has! I hope to chuck some STI springs and struts under it in the near future, as well as a TBE.

I'm quite new to turbocharged cars/tuning/etc, what would people recommend when tuning a 99 gc8? Thanks!

Welcome, congrats on the purchase! Getting into your first turbo car is always an exciting time.
It terms of tuning etc, there is heaps of info on here so just use the search function as there have been plenty of GC8s modded on this forum, from mild to full re-builds.
If you are just looking at a TBE for now this won't require a re-tune for your model.
I would personally recommend that following the TBE you go down the route of better handling mods rather than more power, especially if:
a) This is your first turbo car
b) The roads you have in Tasmania + a decent handling GC8 would be pure driving bliss

Anyway, enjoy your new purchase mate and take it down to a local track/skid-pan day if you get the chance

Using a budget courier company like Ego or the likes and it wouldn't actually be too expensive. Probs 30 odd bucks depot to depot. It would probably take 3 weeks to get there though.

Awesome thanks for the info mate. Would you recommend a boost gauge to go along with the TBE because of the change in levels and throttle response?

If you are just going TBE then there is no need for a boost gauge as you won't be changing the stock boost control; i.e.- the stock turbo, wastegate actuator and wastegate solenoid etc will all still be looking for the same boost targets, it's just that the TBE will allow the turbo to reach the boost levels earlier in the rev range due to less restriction in the system.
The only reason to get a boost gauge imo is if you change the stock boost control system (ebc/manual boost tee) or if you are curious to know or because fast and furious lol
