Default Wheels and Specs

Hi Guys,

Me again hope everyone's well

Just wondering if anyone with expert knowledge can shed some lights on this.

So the car is 99 GC8 WRX, I've got Rota Wheels at the moment, not sure on the model but I'm pretty sure it's 17x7 or 17x7.5, not sure on offset and it's on Pirelli 215/45/17.

It sits a little bit inside the guard.

I've really taken a like to Enkei Tenjin but they are 17x8 with an offset +35.

So I'm wanting to know whether I would come across any problem with this wheel?

Thanks again guys

Take a wheel off and find out offset/width.
then use this.

Custom wheels, rim tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com

I'm guessing it'll be pretty tight, just outside the guard. Thats what camber is for anyway.

Thanks mate,

One other thing, and this is weight related issue as in weight reduction.

Would you say it's a big improvement in terms of acceleration and handling to go from rota to enkei?

Thanks again

You will struggle with a +35 offset. You don't indicate what tyre size you plan for these rims. Something with +45-50 would be better. Any reduction of unsprung weight is good.

Ben, what purpose does your car serve you and what else have you done to it? I'm all for reducing unsprung weight and going from rotas to a high quality Japanese wheel but I don't want to overstate how much of an effect you will feel on the average car. You'll feel very little in terms of acceleration and braking but it will be slightly improved if weight is reduced, certainly nothing in comparison to a tune, exhaust or other engine related performance mods. Likewise braking can be better improved with pads, fluid, and lines.

What rota do you have currently? Some are quite light already, the rota titan in 17x8 is just under 8kg. An RPF1 from enkei for comparison is about 7.4kg. So it's lighter, but it's not going to set your world on fire. Again, completely advocate going to a higher quality 'genuine' wheel, but not on the premise that your car is going to handle that much better.

Also 17x8 +45 or there about is going to serve you much better, +35 is a hard ask on a gc8 in that width. Enkei in their RPF range make a 7.5 +48 or an 8 +45 if they take your fancy.

Sorry I was thinking of using the same 215/45/17, maybe even go to 225/45/17 if that's better

^^^ I think Steve nailed it...

This is good advice.

Tyre size I would suggest 215/45 or at a squeeze 225/40.

I wouldn't be using a 215 tyre on an 8" wide rim...225 or even 235 with the right offset.

Hi guys,

Just found out the rims at the moment is a Rota G Force 17x8 and offset 48..

@JRecardo, sorry Mate I didn't notice your post before, the car is for street use, haven't been to the track to be honest but might consider it one way. I suppose It's not as much as the weight reduction as the main reason why I wanted to change rims, just saw a lot of nicer looking rims out there that I like... The Enkei Tenjin being one of them and the workmeister but the workmeister will be a fair bit off in terms of fitment I think.

So what do you guys think going from offset 48 to 35 ? Because the Rota at the moment where I thought was 17x7 or 7.5 is actually 8 so the only difference would be the offset.

Bummer they used to make offset 45 on 17x8 which would've been perfect but Autotechnik who is one of the authorised dealer for enkei said they no longer make them at 45 offset.
