McRae Motorsport responded to me saying they have passed on the concerns to the event organisers,
who will contact me directly. Which is pretty much what I expected.

Will keep you all posted.

I'm with Fred on this. Would love to do it but the risk of major damage is too high, which is a bigger concern for me in a Lotus. Not cheap to fix/replace an aluminum chassis.

Great event for spectating though and a huge variety of cars. Good chance for the photographers to practice their panning in the low light as well.

When did motorsport ever become safe?

These events sell out every single time without fail, concrete or not, i'll be there competing to the best of my ability. The only people I've seen fail are those that take massive risks in pushing way too hard, importantly learn to drive then try this stuff out. It is run by the same group that do targa events and it is very well run, the barriers are not only there as a limiting point for speed and entry/exit lines of corners but also to save people from paying the absorbent costs of hitting anything at the plex. Ask the guys from Dutton who smacked a metal mesh fence and left 5 or so grand lighter in the pocket a few years back.

You compete at your own risk, drive within your own and the limits of your car, and learn to read the road ahead so you can prepare and not react to the conditions of the road you are racing on. Many people who have raced collie or even barbagallo would agree that you do much higher speeds there and a little oil or coolant in a breaking zone can send you into a world of hurt yet people turn up in standard street cars to go flat out at No Limits events?????

To put it really bluntly, my 58 year old dad can come within 4-5 seconds of my runs which are top 3 times wise, and he hasn't had any issue with concrete, especially in a car which has no electronic assistance and is completely mechanical to drive.... You don't win epic $$$ for winning the event, its club level motorsport that is challenging and a lot more fun than going around a few cones at RAC, come out drive your first run at 60-70% and then progressively work your way up from there boys and girls.

MOTORSPORT IS DANGEROUS... but its also one hell of a blast

Received a response from Ross Tapper (Clerk of Course).
It is about what I expected. As Rob has pointed out one reason is protecting infrastructure and the other cost.

Water barriers are not Safety Barriers, they are only delineators and can never be used as a Safety Barrier. If we got the genuine barrier that you see on road works, the entry fee will be more than double the current price.

I'd rather smash into a cyclone mesh fence for $5k than into a 1 tonne block of concrete. I bet I know which one will hurt less and cost less

It is what it is I guess. Similar to the Busso sprint, people will run out of talent or have an incident a bit out of their control (fluids/debris on track) and bin it. Unfortunatly the price of doing it at this event and the busso one can be high if its in a braking zone where the barriers are...but there in lies the challenge, the risk, the excitement and the reward. You definately have to choose the areas where you push and where you dont.

Cant see them changing the barriers any time soon.
