What kind of servicing and maintenance do you need to do for these events? Like do you need to do an oil change before and after? I'm interested but concerned about all the extra maint stuff

Just do the usual checks of fluids / brakes etc.

Car will be fine.

I just check oil/coolant levels and that brake pads have plenty of thickness left. Usually do a brake bleed if I haven't done one for a while as well.
