I have a 2004 wrx and was wondering if I fit a turbo back exhaust system and bigger top mount would I need to retune my ecu or get a after market one.
Would I get boost spikes which could cause damage

Get it tuned to.Will get much better results and you won't have to worry if it is safe or not.

for about 6 months i ran a 3" TBE and big top mount with stock ecu with no boost issues etc.

You really should get the ecu flashed after those mods as it is a risk, and i have done that now (Verso) along with turbo upgrade. I have read other people have had spike issues.

yes def get it tuned if adding those mods mate! How else are you going to get the most out them?
