ECU Recommendations
Greetings, Faithful.
I have an '01 bug eye, 3" S/Steel mandrel bent exhaust, RMS up pipe, Turbo XS boost override, BOV, Cold Air Ram Pod, '05 hood scoop, lowered Whiteline springs, brace, etc. Next thing I'm looking for is an ECU set up. Any recommendations? My mechanic suggested Possum Link at about $2200 installed. I've read a poor review on the net about this one? Any other bad experiences? Any other suggestions? Any good experiences? Car is used as a daily runner but looking to engage in club activities sooner than later. Happy with the power now, but always craving more. All suggestions welcome. |

ecutek will handle all that stuff just fine it's alot less than the link and a shitload less than the motec :flamesuit on:
my personal opinion depending on budget is if you got 4k to play with motec wins hands down if you wanna keep it down to around 1500 then ecutek all the way |

Autronic for around $3500 or motec $4600
all fitted and tuned and i believe it's the best option for replacement ecu in australia |

When I was doing research on ECU's, I too thought that there was a huge price difference between the Autronic and the Motec. However because of the plug and play Motecs, the price difference is not really all that much (in the grand scheme of modifying a car anyway). My advice is to do as much research as possible into all the alternatives and more importantly, work out what you want to do with the car, both for now and the future.

I'd suggest really researching the ECU choice based on the end result/mods that you intend. No point purchasing the ECU based only on budget and current mods - IMHO it would be the one thing really worth saving up to get the best possible choice for your car/mods.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~tuna/ECU%20matrix.gif Thanks to Stace for this lil chart - it is a handy reference point for comparing the different units. Once you have a firm idea of what you want to achieve, see what people currently running something close to that setup are using for their ECU. Thats my 2¢.

Obviously Motec offers a better resolution and a few other real cool functions compared to other ECUs.
It really comes down to how much you really want to spend on your car, a Possum Link ECU, Autronic, ECUTEK , Microtech all could make power it comes down to the tuner and how well he can tweak your map. I personally have a Link ECU, it makes power and its ok on the street bar a few surges every now and again. (Which could be fixed by dumping in more fuel into the map im told) Hope i've added some fuel to the fire. Pete. |

If you are sure that you will not want more and more power further down the track (talking above 400hp) then the ECUTEK and U-Teks are the way to go.
original ecu, all the safety and drivability of the std subaru computer adjusted for more power with supporting mods. If you think that you may go all out in the future then consider a Motec or Autronics.
