Default Gearbox options

Hi guys,

Please before flaming me and telling me to search, i have had a terrible night and need some up to date info on what options there are on fixing/replacing an my02 gearbox.

I changed into 3rd fast and it smashed the gear, it wont come out of 3rd, and when you lift the clutch, it just grinds so you cant actually drive it. You can push it with the clutch in (i moved it into a service station denting the boot in the process.. love life!)

So yeah, i dont know if its done selector fork, as well as 3rd gear, but i need some options on what to do.

i.e
- how much are 2nd hand my02+ boxes
- how much are sti boxes and what other things do you need to get that to work?
- ppg gearset? + rebuild
- standard rebuild?

Like i said, please dont flame me for not finding stuff in the search, but ive been stuck outside in the middle of midland with the natives pushing the car to where the was some light.. haha

Appreciate all reply's - cheers

ppg gearset - budget 4-5k for full gears
sti boxes around 5-6k then u need the diffs
2nd boxes - 1500 or so
rebuilds - more expensive than a 2nd hand box

The my02 has 4.44 diffs right? But the Sti 6MT has 3.9 diffs right?

If you dont have a 3.9 rear diff to match the 6MT box, would it be possible to keep the 4.44 rear diff and transfer the 4.44 front diff from the 5MT to the 6MT case?

Hi mate i know what you mean. I have a 2007 wrx with 4,000km on the clock and i smashed reverse. Killed it compleatly.......don't ask how, about a month 1/2 ago It gets better, bits from reverse distroyed.... wait for it....... 1st 2nd crownwell and pinion. (lessoned leaned if you break a gear TURN OFF THE CAR AND DONT MOVE IT!!!)
Due to the fact i had an exhaust kit it voided the waranty so i was up for the LOT.
For everything on mine it is costing me around the 7g mark but that is strait cut 1st and 2nd from ppg, new selector forks for 1st 2nd 3rd 4th, new reverse crownwell and pinion as well as labour. I know it is alot but with the power i am wanting to make i think it is best to do the ppg gear set, only thing is no-one else has blown an 2007 gear box yet so i am still waiting for the parts to be sorted out. AHHHHHH I WANT MY CAR BACK!!!
So if i were you i would go for the ppg set, 1st 2nd straight cut 2nd 3rd helical or standard 4th 5th reverse standard. It will be you best option i think. Good luck
