Default Dropped oil in box and no lollys???

As you may know, i was driving the wrx about a month ago and shifted into second the let clutch off hard and it wend BANG! and lost second gear.

Drove it home about a klm away with what sounded like a small piece of crap floating around.

After about 500meters the "floating piece" vanished.

Got home and it seems im stuck in 3rd.

Bloke of antilag pulled box out for me on Saturday and we dropped oil and there was hardly anything on the magnetic plug.

I thin poured oil through strainer and agian only small fine peices .

In total there would of been about a "pinch" of small metal fibers.

WTF????????
I havnt pulled box apart yet. This week i will get it stripped down.

Any ideas?

Does f/all metal mean i could be in the clear of a big doller job?

your gonna have to pull the box apart as big chucks coming off the gears are too big and heavy to be attracted by the magnet on the plug.

Could be that the chunk of metal has got stuck in between a couple of gears hence no 3rd. If it is stuck in between the gears it is not going to end up on the plug.

sounds like all the metal has gotten stuck in one of the little valleys in the box..

stuff like the selector rods are also close to the casing so could be stuck round there

just wondering, to fill your gearbox with oil, do you fill it through where the dip stick sits???

Cheers
