i dont mind if there is noise...what im asking for is something that will be good for daily driving and will last a while....

i have hurd that dogboxs only last 8000-20000kms ?? dont know if it is tru or not??

also for freeway driving and stuff will the 6th gear be better for fuel ??

thanks

it depends... do you do track work? are you more interested in 1/4 mile times?

does the noise trouble you?

if its a daily driver i would say the 6 speed

What sort of power outputs are you making and what keeps causing the boxes to break? Not to sound like a smart ass but smashing 2 boxes in a month could just be the way you drive and not the gearboxes themselves.

A dogbox will not be suitable for daily driving - This is a non-synchro box. You can get PPG boxes with synchros which will be better for daily driving. Depending on what you are doing with the car you can get straight cut gears (whiney) or helical cut gears (quieter).

6 speed option will be like stock, but require a lot of work.

For both options I think you will need to budget $6-8k.

6 speed definitely. It is a little more expensive but it is still stronger than a PPG 5 speed. and you dont get the noise and you get one extra ratio.

6MT just for the box is around 6.5k to 7k
DCCD is extra
You will need to get a 3.9 diff to match the box
You can either use the R180 3.9 diff from the STi the box came from (cost around 600-800) or just find a 3.9 diff from a GX or Lib (or equivalent) and take the internals (crown/pinion) out and put into your diff housing.

6MT prices varies nowadays. If you budget 7-8k, then you'll be ok.
