Goto the how much horsepower thread and check the last few pages about feral's 2.5 running a GTPS02. that looks like the perfect match for a streeter to me.

Just the words I was going to post.....however....remember Feral's is an 06 WRX....these EJ255's could be out of older 04/05 Forester XT's which won't give you the same results as Feral has achieved with the same turbo due to lower compression, possibly smaller cams/heads etc...
You have to know what the engine came out of as not all EJ255's are alike.
If you can afford it the EJ257 would be a safer bet (known specs) and will happily make 240-260wkw all day long with the above turbo or bigger again + supporting mods.....AND not to mention the MONSTER torque

to put it bluntly... i know FUCK ALL about the differences between an EJ255 and EJ257, i read all the threads about 'EJ257 pride' but have no idea what you're talking about!!!

Can someone lay it out for me whats what and cost indication for both. Also, no-one's recommended a shop to supply and fit, any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Yeah im definatley going to be considering this conversion on my my00 gc8 when the 205 goes. The 2.5ltrs are such torque monsters it isnt even fair coupled with a light gc8 shell, it should do alright. Some nice aftermarket pistons should fix those hypercrap ones just hopfully the bores dont warp or anything heh.

So its a case of, stripping the gc8 of its engine and bolting in a 257? Already got fuel pump, PFC etc. How would a stock 5 speed deal with making 260kwatw though?

stock 5 speed... yeah nah... prepare to fork out for a GD 5 speed at least if not an STi 6 speed... Havent heard of too many GD 5 speed boxes breaking yet, the semi-straight cut 1st and 2nd gears seems to help them last, although I will be testing the durability of mine soon!

Might go for a 6 speed upgrade prior to the engine conversion.

EJ255 is the 2.5L motor in the WRX (and Forresters, Liberties etc)
EJ257 is the 2.5L motor in the STi

As for the differences it is not as clear cut as the EJ205 and EJ207 from what I have read.

If you can afford the EJ257 you know at least you are getting an STi motor and it should be able to take some decent punishment.

thanks for the definition dude. What about cost wise for the 257? Also, is there any difference between the EJ255and EJ257 deck wise? Or are they both semi closed deck?

nah fuck the 2.2 stroker, 2.5l has more torque as standard and as i've said a few times, it's gonna be left stock for quite a while, so id rather what the 2.5 has to offer.
Plus semi closed deck of the 2.5 is a benefit.
