The D1 rex's are simular, and so totally not simular to a normal rex..

the GD shape model's, i think both run holinger sequential 6 speed boxes, and skyline rears, built 2.5 litre jun motors and around 550ps

the GC 2 door, runs a rex ra/r180 rear and i think a rex box still..

none of them run front half shafts for more lock, so custom setups on the front..

and all of them run the radiators in the boot

getting a normal rex to drift is easy, drop tail shaft, remove rear inspection cover on the box, remove centre diff, insert modded/welded centre diff, replace cover, replace shaft, voila, RWD, takes about an hour to perform the swap..

rear diff, either weld it up if stocker open centre, or get a mechanical centre somehow..

however, this is where it starts to fall apart a bit, the rex shell by nature, is weak as piss, caging it if your serious about making it a drifter would be the no 1 priority, followed by as good suspension setup, and then sorting the rear end out..

common conversion i have heard of, is the japs getting a skyline box behind the motor, requiring a custom adaptor plate, custom clutch, and switching from a pull to push clutch setup, and then sticking a nissan r200 skyline/silvia diff into the rear, much much stronger than the stocker r160, which is >a weak as anything, b> will have you busting shafts regurally depending on your method of driving on the track..

i only trashed one diff and one shaft, but that was doing burnouts at MV with people in the car and dropping second gear, i use a skando entry when drifting which is a lot less savage than clutch kicking the thing..

it can be done, but to do it properly, id go the skyline box and bigger diff in the rear, which will need some front end trickery to delete the half shafts, but its do able, and you can work on more lock then..

next you'll just need decent power, 400ish will be enough to keep 18's turning given the weight you could get a rex down to if you make it a dedicated drifter..

as for modding the centre diff, get a busted centre diff, and weld it up, don't bother buying one of the replacement diffs from MRT, which although a milled piece of gear, isn't really worth the excpense when you could make your own for sub 100 bucks if you know the right people
