just to put a spanner in the works, I recon its your mag wheel's causing the trouble...

nah, seriously.. it sounds like alternator not giving charge to the battery. If it started on a newly charged battery then wouldn't start when you got home, it means the alternator wasn't charging the battery on the drive home. Good way to test this, is put the battery on slow charge over night, if it starts again the next morning, then its probably the alternator.. but at this stage, I would say its a fair bet.

Checked your terminals? Might need cleaning.

+1 for alternator... if you have a multimeter, test the battery whilst the car is running. You should be getting around 14V if the alternator is charging with the headlights off (if on should be about 13.7 or 13.5) If the alternator is faked you'll get 12.5V or less.

If your starter motor was faked you wouldn't hear the engine turn over...mind you if the battery is completely flat you won't hear it either

If you havent got a multimeter...swing past my place and i'll test it for ya. If it ends up being the alternator, try changing the brushes first (very easy to do) as they only cost $20-$30 instead of a few hundered for a new alternator.

check that the battery you bought isnt faulty before forking out for a new alternator Benny... what brand did you buy(battery)??

Batteries are often prone to failing if they are left too long before charging!(they should be replaced before 3 months or charged while they are sitting at a shop waiting to be sold). it may have been enough to start the car once, but could have dropped a cell or two in the process?

Its worth checking that the battery is still ok, because a brand new battery should last longer than a night even if it isnt being charged by the alternator!
