Default speedo cable

gentleman, ladies, polar,

a few weeks ago my speedo just died.

assuming a snapped cable, a mate pulled it out, it wasnt snapped. what the issue was was where the two bits of the cable join, the connection was rather loose, thus coming apart causing the speedo to not work. normally a circlip of some sort goes there but this is missing or cant be fitted, not sure. we just used some thin wire to tighten it, appears its failed.

tonight lost the speedo again, i presume its the same issue.

anything i can do ensure this doesnt keep occurring, or should i just fork out for a new cable from the box end? mate who did it last time is unavailable as he is east for a couple of weeks, and i like a speedo.

what are they worth? anyone got one?

5 speed my97 box btw.

get a new circlip to hold the two parts of the speedo cable together?

Failing that get a good second hand replacement from a wrecker. No need to go straight to new. Although this is your second speedo cable IIRC they generally last ages.

Is your dump pipe heat shielded or wrapped? Speedo cables hate excess heat because the grease inside them dries up and the the plastic components become brittle.
