I guess to avoid a lot of pain, I would look for GD WRX as well. Perhaps same year 04. I assume the wiring, loom, etc may be identical but at least not totally different. Is it right?
I might need engine, gearbox, front axle, rear axle, wiring, ecu, loom and cluster. If I get the JDM half cut, that means that the cluster would only go to 180km/h top. Correct me if this is wrong. Can anyone advise me how to change it to Oz standard?Would buying new Oz cluster helps? Thanks Sofian |

For the most part you're right, generally if you stick with the same model JDM you shouldn't have a problem.
Changing the loom is not hideous, but it is a big job. With a GD you may have to do all the wire because of the fuel pump and canister. The cluster will certainly be a 180 from a JDM and if you're using the JDM ECU why change it? An Oz cluster should work, I've seen an Sti one transplanted and work fine. In most half-cuts you get engine, gearbox etc, it's just cut at the 'B' pillars. It's half a car. With better dealers you'll get the rear cross member with diff/shocks etc, the rear loom intact and possibly tank and pump, though this may be up for negotiation as well. Best bet is get a fair idea of what you need to do, then ask someone like Jap Wholesale what they have to do it. But remember the parts re-cycling industry is a buyer beware type of thing and their aim is to deal in volume sales to the motor industry if possible so your one off sale is not necessarily going to be the high point of their trading week regardless of how dear to your heart it is, or how big a slice of your budget. |

Thanks very much 97RA. Very very useful advise. I will ask what I will get for a haf cut before the deal. After second thought, I wouldn't mind to use JDM cluster. I wouldnt go over 180 anyway on the road.
Thanks |

If you do an engine conversion, are you forced to throw the car over the pits to clear the engine transfer?

if the car was originally non-turbo, a permit is necessary.
if the car was already turboed, i cant see a need to change any specifications, especially if it was a 'replacement' turbo- cant exactly buy a TD04 from supercheap!

So if i was to have my Ej205T in a MY00 GC8 and was to throw in an Ej207 bottom end or even a Ej257 replacement, changing the engine itself wouldnt require any permits or pit coverage even though i have changed literage? (Ej257 wise)
