Post New Engine

HELLO ALL.
I need a new engine for my poor baby and was goin to have a 2.0l Sti engine dropped in. was just wondering if I'm suppose to take it somewhere to get it all re-tuned, or if i actually need to? also where would be the best place to take it and what's the best type of tuning for it (presume'n theres different types).

also is there anythin else i should take into consideration?

any help or advice much appreciated

Hey mate, might help if you let us know what car you have
and also which kind of STI engine you propose to fit it with.

Eg: is it a 5 or 6 speed and do you have the ECU?

Just slot an EJ207 in.

With a good tune it will happily take a crap load of boost.

Did you run the anti-lag or rotational idle before the engine went? They are known to cause engine damage.

Yeah you can.

Get an EJ207 and the matching STi heads with sodium filled exhaust valves and shimless buckets (this way you wont melt any exhaust valves, or bust any shims).

Hook up a MoTeC M800 with an EGT probe in the exhaust manifold, and set it up so the MoTeC pulls timing and dumps in fuel if your manifold starts getting too hot.

Another question you may not have asked yourself, do you want a 2ltr EJ207 or a 2.5lt EJ257 ?

If you primarily use your car for cruising around the streets and your not a bitch on your gearbox I would steer you in the direction of the EJ257. Hypereutectic cast pistons that do not like detonation, but with a spot on tune and sensible boost perform well. You will get lots of low down torque, perfect for street driving. Just got to be carefull with the extra torque and that 3.9 FD gearbox or it will go POP, CRUNCH!!!

However if you really want to do motorsport and sprints, circuit type events then get the tuff as nails EJ207 short block. Forged pistons. It loves to rev and will handle 25 PSI day in day out. Will probably outlive the rest of the WRX if serviced properly.

Both short blocks will be around $3600ish inc GST which includes gaskets, water pump and an STi oil pump. Excluding Labour.

STi Factory EJ207's:
Subaru Specialist Regents Pty Ltd
304 Scarborough Beach Rd Osborne Park 6017

Parts Dept

Ask for John Keating... Unkle of.........
(08) 9273 2050

$3000 inc GST for a 02 STi factory EJ207

Re-Use everything else from your WRX.
Maybe a new Water Pump ($120) and Timing Belt ($190). Your oil pump can be serviced and extra shims added for improved oil flow. Ask a workshop tho.

Tuners:
Leigh @ RMS if South of the River
Sean @ ASG if North of the River
Steve @ Maximum Motorsport loves his Autronics as well.
